Guide the evolution of cloud infrastructure, ensuring security, global scalability, and long-term system integrity across all environments. Direct the development of core platforms and shared services, ensuring they solve cross-cutting needs for diverse global client use cases. Partner with cross-functional leadership to steer the technical roadmap, mentoring senior and junior staff and ensuring all products align with a cohesive, future-proof technical architecture. Bridge the gap between the field and the core platform by turning real-world client lessons into the reusable patterns that power the entire engineering team.<br><br>Ideally you’d have:<br><br>Masters or Phd in Computer Science or equivalent deep industry experience in architecting complex, distributed systems.10+ years of full-stack expertise across Python, Node.js, and React, with a proven track record of designing high-scale architectures on Kubernetes and global cloud infrastructures (AWS/Azure/GCP). Expert ability to design and oversee production-grade ecosystems, ensuring world-class standards for system integrity, security, and long-term scalability. This team is responsible for generating, executing, and fostering Scale’s work with governments and government-backed entities outside of the United States.<br><br>We develop bespoke solutions that leverage our customers’ proprietary data and expertise to transform their organizations with AI. The ideal candidate has deep experience with AI/ML application development, can think strategically about how to solve a problem, is an excellent listener, is comfortable getting into the weeds operationally, and has a strong understanding of software engineering principles and practices. In our Global Public Sector (GPS) division, we don’t just implement tools; we conduct applied research to solve the unique challenges of sovereign AI.<br><br>Your role is to move beyond off-the-shelf implementations. You will lead the research into Agent Design, Reliability, and AI Safety, developing novel system architectures that power high-stakes government applications. You will be the bridge between a research paper and a production-ready system that functions at scale.<br><br>The Mission<br><br>Applied Agent Research: Leading the design of reliable, multi-step agentic systems and long-horizon reasoning frameworks that can solve complex problems for national security and public policy. Systemic Evaluation & Red-Teaming: Developing rigorous benchmarks and evaluation protocols to ensure AI systems are safe, unbiased, and performant in high-stakes, non-commercial environments.
