Job Description<br><br>The Protection Site Engineer will be responsible for supervising, testing, commissioning, and maintaining protection systems in substations, power plants, and transmission/distribution networks. The role ensures reliable operation of protection schemes, compliance with standards, and safe execution of site works.<br><br>Responsibilities<br><br>Review of contractors’ design drawings and Design approval. Will be responsible for review of inspection & testing procedure, FAT/SAT formats, method statements. Verify relay setting calculations for existing and new protection devices. Verify adequacy checks for current and voltage transformer calculations. Witnessing the testing and commissioning of all protection equipment and ensuring the protection and control philosophy is correctly implemented at site as per client specification. Being well versed with the protection devices of major OEMS -Siemens, GE(Alstom) and ABB, frequently assists the client for implementation of important protection like Cable Differential/Distance, Transformer Differential & REF, Bus bar Differential (Low Impedance and High Impedance) and Reactor Differential. Ensuring all protection and control signals are configured to substation SCADA(IEC61850) and Nation Control Centre (IEC104). Witnessing the testing of Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) schemes for Transformer and Reactor. Verify protection and control schematics based on protection requirement. Troubleshooting of the faults in the substations related to protection and control and providing corrective actions to client. Review of method statements submitted by the contractor to ensure safe and reliable protection stability testing of the Cable, Transformer, Reactor and Busbar<br><br><br>Qualifications<br><br>Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Power Engineering (or equivalent). Minimum 6 years of experience in protection and control engineering (substations / transmission & distribution / power plants). Hands-on experience with protection relays (Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, etc.). Knowledge of relay coordination, fault analysis, and power system protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.). Familiarity with testing tools (Omicron, Doble, Megger, etc.). Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE, and local utility standards. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. <section><p class="heading jdMain">Job Description</p><p class="heading">Roles &amp; Responsibilities</p><div class="paragraph"><ul><li><p>Overall checking and inspection of 220kV, 132kV, 66kV and 11kV switchyards, switch rooms, control room, relay and control panels, battery chargers, telemetry room, CO2 system, Transformer Tap changers, control panels and other equipments.</p></li><li><p>Note down any abnormalities and inform to Kahramaa’ s System Control.</p></li><li><p>Systematically logging the events and abnormalities like faults, tripping, weather conditions etc. and recording the readings such as voltage, currents, MW, Cable oil pressure, GIS switchgear pressure, Tap Positions etc. as required by the System Control Engineer of Kahramaa.</p></li><li><p>To carryout switching or other operations of equipment in the Substation under direct instructions, if required so by Kahramaa’ s System Control Engineer on duty.</p></li><li><p>Assists the Shift Control Engineer in executing switching programs.</p></li><li><p>Maintains system voltage and frequency at prescribed levels all the time.</p></li><li><p>Assists the Control Engineer for economic load dispatch of active and reactive power to various Power Stations.</p></li><li><p>Participates in the preparation of the daily reports.</p></li><li><p>Assists the shift control engineer during emergencies.</p></li><li><p>Logs system events, alarms, switching operations and other reports from the fields.</p></li><li><p>Attends special tasks assigned by the Head of System Control Section, Senior System Control Engineer and Control Engineers.</p></li><li><p>Performs other related duties as needed upon request by the immediate supervisor.</p></li><li><p>Maintains and updates the filing system for all control Room Records.</p></li><li><p>Maintains manuals and software updated for all relevant systems.</p></li><li><p>Participates in the preparation of the daily reports.</p></li><li><p>Works in cooperation with Quality Assurance and Continual Improvement department on securing and maintaining the ISO 9002 certification.</p></li><li><p>Carries out and ensures the compliance of all activities within the National Control Center Section are in‐line with Kahramaa health and safety regulations.</p></li></ul></div></section><section><p class="heading">Desired Candidate Profile</p><p class="paragraph"></p><p>Experience: Minimum Five Years’ Experience for diploma holders and Minimum 2 years for Bachelor's Degree holders in the field of operation and Maintenance of Substations with Power Transformers, GIS/Minimum Oil Switchgear and associated equipment of Voltage rating 220kV, 132kV, 66kV, 33kV and 11kV. Knowledge of protection, HV/EHV cables, EHV Overhead Lines and Transformer on‐load tap changers are essential. For Graduate Engineers the minimum experience must be Two years in similar field.</p><p></p></section>
