The position aims to attract a high-level professional leader or practitioner-academic, possessing extensive leadership experience and a distinguished record in public administration, public policy, governance, public sector management, and the development of public institutions and services, or related fields.<br><br>The Professor of Practice plays a pivotal role in bridging academic knowledge with actual practice in public sector institutions, particularly in teaching and qualifying executive students and those with professional experience. The candidate is expected to employ their practical experience in education through real-life case studies, simulations, practical workshops, policy formulation, analysis of institutional and administrative problems, and dealing with real challenges facing public institutions.<br><br>The Professor of Practice is also expected to contribute to strengthening the program's relationship with government and public institutions, developing partnerships with them, engaging leaders and practitioners in the educational process, developing executive education and capacity-building programs, and contributing to initiatives and projects related to public sector development, enhancing institutional efficiency, and improving policy implementation and the quality of public services.<br><br>The program welcomes candidates whose excellence is based on high-level leadership and professional experience in government or public institutions, international organizations, or related professional fields, as well as academics who combine scientific excellence with extensive practical experience.<br><br>Main Duties<br><br>Teaching practical courses at the graduate and executive education levels using real-life case studies, simulations, workshops, problem-solving exercises, and other experiential learning methods that connect theoretical knowledge to actual practice. Training students on practical tools for policymaking and public administration, including policy formulation, memoranda and policy papers, strategic planning, program and project design, implementation plans, institutional analysis, stakeholder management, and performance management and evaluation. Supervising capstone projects, consulting and applied projects, and applied research, particularly those implemented in cooperation with government agencies and public institutions. Engaging government leaders, policymakers, and practitioners in the educational process through lectures, workshops, policy labs, simulations, and applied projects. Building and strengthening effective institutional partnerships with ministries, government agencies, public institutions, international organizations, and relevant professional bodies in Qatar, the Gulf countries, and the Arab region. Developing and contributing to executive education, professional training, and capacity-building programs that respond to the needs of public institutions, leaders, and employees in the public sector. Participating in projects and initiatives for the development and modernization of the public sector, including institutional and administrative reform, capacity development, governance, policy implementation, government digital transformation, enhancing institutional performance, and improving the quality and efficiency of public service delivery. Working with partners in the public sector to identify actual problems and challenges that can be turned into applied projects, capstones, case studies, or executive training and development activities. Developing original applied case studies and teaching materials based on the experiences of institutions in Qatar, the Gulf, and the Arab region, contributing to building applied knowledge relevant to the regional context. Contributing to the intellectual and professional activity of the program through applied research, policy papers, professional reports, case studies, and participation in public debate or academic research, depending on the candidate's background and experience. Actively participating in curriculum development, mentoring and advising students, program development, committees, and the academic and institutional life of the School and the Institute.<br><br>Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:<br><br>Applicants must possess a distinguished professional and leadership record that embodies the nature of the Professor of Practice position, and the ability to translate practical experience into high-level applied education and training, and effectively connect the program with public sector institutions.<br><br>Hold a PhD in Public Administration or a related field, or an advanced professional degree such as a DPA, or possess an exceptional record of high-level professional and leadership experience and achievement, along with academic or intellectual involvement appropriate to the nature of the Professor of Practice position. Possess advanced leadership experience in government, public administration, public sector management, policy formulation and implementation, institutional development and administrative reform, public services, governance, international organizations, or related fields. Have a clear record of professional achievement and impact, such as leading major public institutions or programs, contributing to the design and implementation of public policies, leading institutional reform and development operations, improving public services, or providing advice to decision-makers and senior leadership. Capable of translating their professional experience into effective executive and applied education through case studies, simulations, policy exercises, applied projects, and experiential learning methods. Capable of training and supervising students in the areas of policy formulation, implementation, strategic planning, institutional development, program and project management, evaluation, and addressing practical problems in the public sector. Possess strong professional networks and a proven ability to build partnerships with ministries, government agencies, public institutions, and international organizations. Capable of developing executive education, training, and capacity-building programs directed at the public sector. Possess a record of research and scientific publication appropriate to their academic background, or a distinguished record of intellectual and applied contributions, such as policy papers, government reports, institutional strategies, case studies, and major projects and consultancies. Department: NUQ Marketing<br><br>Salary/Grade: EXS/8<br><br>The Media Relations and Public Affairs Manager supports Northwestern University in Qatar’s (NU-Q) visibility and reputation through the execution and coordination of media engagement, relationship management, and dissemination of institutional narratives.<br><br>This role contributes to the implementation of NU-Q’s communications priorities by ensuring that academic achievements, research initiatives, and institutional activities are accurately represented across external media and internal communication channels.<br><br>Working in close coordination with leadership and internal stakeholders, the role supports executive communications, media outreach, and institutional reporting within established communications frameworks and guidelines.<br><br>Essential Duties And Responsibilities<br><br> Support the execution of media strategies aligned with NU-Q’s communications objectives and institutional priorities Maintain and coordinate relationships with journalists, editors, and media stakeholders across Qatar, the region, and internationally Assist in engagement with government, diplomatic, and external stakeholders, as required Draft and distribute press releases, op-eds, media kits, and statements in coordination with internal stakeholders Monitor and compile media coverage, preparing regular reports and summaries Coordinate incoming press queries and interview requests Support leadership visibility through coordination of media placements and opportunities Collaborate with the content team to deliver consistent institutional storytelling outputs Assist in preparing briefing materials, background research, and talking points Maintain media databases and tracking tools Coordinate with partner entities to support aligned outreach efforts Ensure adherence to NU-Q editorial standards and brand guidelines <br><br>Team Collaboration<br><br> Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team culture grounded in accountability, trust, and shared purpose. Participate in regular team meetings and workshops. Support documentation, processes, and shared resources to strengthen continuity and institutional knowledge. <br><br> Other duties, as assigned by the Assistant Dean and senior leadership <br><br>Minimum Qualifications (education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)<br><br> Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field. 5-7 years of experience in media relations, preferably in higher education or a knowledge-based sector. Demonstrated success in securing media coverage Strong writing, editing, and communication skills Understanding of local, regional, and global media landscapes Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and professional judgment <br><br>Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)<br><br> Preferred Master’s degree in Journalism, Integrated / Strategic Communications, Public Relations, or related field existing network of media contacts in Qatar and the region Experience in a multicultural or academic environment Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools Knowledge of Education City ecosystem Strong editorial judgment and understanding of media best practices <br><br> The target budgeted salary for this position is $70,020 to $90,260 annually.
