Job Description<br><br>The Senior Surveyor I is considered an intermediate to advanced level Surveyor position. The primary function is to examine and report on vessels and other marine structures during and after construction relative to compliance with the applicable requirements for maintaining the vessel in Classification with ABS and meeting associated statutory and special service requirements related to the Safety of Life at Sea, Loadline, Tonnage, Cargo Gear, and Pollution Prevention Certification. When necessary, responsible for administering office procedures and monitoring business performance at an assigned port.<br><br>What You Will Do:<br><br>Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes. Performs routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, or other marine structures and at manufacturers for classification and compliance with statutory requirements. Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed. Engages in contact with clients to resolve problems within areas of expertise. Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in the area of responsibility. Maintains an active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and recommends changes in the surveying processes and safety programs as warranted by such developments. Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and makes changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary. Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed. Monitors work and projects performed by subordinate surveyors to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed. Provides leadership, guidance, and training to lower-level and/or less experienced surveyors. Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS to present and potential customers. <br><br>What You Will Need:<br><br>Education & Experience<br><br>Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) years program); or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer, and Minimum requirements & knowledge listed for Surveyor II. Minimum three (3) years of experience working as a Surveyor II. Understanding of ABS strategic technical positioning in their respective sector of the marine industry or Minimum eight (8) years of experience in an Engineering or Survey Capacity with an IACS member Classification Society<br><br>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities<br><br>Appropriate certification and/or licenses in areas of specialization may be required. Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy. Ability to read engineering plans and have a basic understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations. Ability to perform surveys in the prescribed format. Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities. Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work. Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery. Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise. Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions. <br><br>Physical Requirements:<br><br>Where allowed by local laws, a pre-employment physical examination is mandatory. The role of surveyor/auditor requires sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, and both visual and auditory acuity to perform the listed duties effectively. The ability to climb vertical ladders up to nine meters and navigate steep steps is essential. Shall be capable of working at heights on various staging and lifting equipment. Shall be able to maneuver in tight spaces and work inside confined areas for extended periods, including kneeling and crawling. The role may involve exposure to industrial environments, potential injury risks, extreme weather conditions, and demanding physical activities. Shall be able to lift at least 25 lbs. / 11.34 kgs. The use of small tools and the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with ABS safety procedures, may be required. Where allowed by local laws, the surveyor will be required to successfully complete an annual physical that will recertify that the individual can perform the physical actions required. <br><br>Reporting Relationships:<br><br>Will report to a Principal Surveyor or higher, under the direction of a Survey Manager or District/Country Manager as appropriate. The incumbent may supervise or provide leadership guidance to lower-level surveyors. Consistently guide and coordinate the work of the project marine leads and coordinators assigned to the individual Compression projects. Compression projects focal point and custodian of the marine safety and quality assurance activities for all marine units engaged on the projects and manages marine assurance processes across Compression projects including vessel suitability assessments, marine assurance inspections and audits (e.g. OVID), marine warranty surveys, DP assurance. Ensure that Contractor personnel and Company Teams are qualified, trained and with suitable level of experience and expertise with respect to marine activities. Managing active interfaces and engagements with OPCO Marine, and Compression PMTs to ensure the marine scope is executed consistently, effectively and efficiently to achieve project objectives. Establish effective communication and strategic connection among critical project stakeholders including Marine Contractors to identify and implement solutions in a timely manner. Facilitate and support resolution-oriented communication among marine stakeholders and Marine Contractors, vessels owners, contractors and third parties. Implement and maintain an efficient Marine Incident Reporting System, support root causes analysis and corrective action identification and implementation, lead critical marine incident investigations (as marine SME), attend offshore survey/inspections and marine audits as needed. Implement and execute an effective lesson learned process of identifying, capturing process and timely sharing mechanism among key marine stakeholders for high value learnings. Providing focus and support to emergent/ unplanned situations such as breakdowns and incidents that demand immediate priority without compromise to ongoing activity. Strong commitment to Safety Leadership supported by extensive knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in the Maritime Industry. Participate in risks screening and assessment and ensure all mitigations measures are safely and timely implemented. Support Shared Resources and PMT T&I teams to review and validate technical and execution deliverables associated with T&I scope execution (as appropriate). Manage live audio mixing, video switching, and lighting during events. Perform routine maintenance on AV equipment to ensure optimal performance. Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues with AV systems and equipment. Repair or arrange for the repair of faulty equipment. Provide technical support to event organizers, presenters, and users of AV equipment. Assist with setup and operation during live events to ensure smooth delivery. Work closely with event coordinators, IT teams, and other stakeholders to meet the specific needs of each event. Collaborate with team members to manage and monitor the inventory of AV equipment. Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, repairs, and maintenance schedules. Document setup configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Be fully aware of recreation facilities, evening programs, and shows, including technical concepts and requirements. Manage bands or performers during sound checks, stage setup, and coordination of singer or performer riders.</p><p><strong>Desired Candidate Profile</strong></p><p>Minimum of 2 3 years of proven experience in a similar AV Technician role, preferably within luxury hospitality, events, entertainment, or live production environments. Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, or a related technical discipline is highly advantageous. Strong technical knowledge of professional audio, video, lighting, and conferencing systems, including installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting. Proven ability to install, operate, and maintain AV equipment such as PA systems, mixers, amplifiers, projectors, LED screens, microphones (wired and wireless), lighting consoles, and video displays. Hands-on experience with live sound mixing, video switching, lighting control, and show setup for events, conferences, and entertainment programs. Solid understanding of signal flow, cabling, power distribution, and equipment safety standards. Good communication skills in English, with the ability to provide clear technical support to event organizers, performers, presenters, and internal stakeholders. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, event-driven hospitality environment while meeting operational timelines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
