Job description

Primary Purpose of the Job

  • Carries out unsupervised, the skilled installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, repair and testing of rotating and static mechanical equipment on Production Platforms.
  • Provides work directions to lower level technicians and contractors and provides on the job training to Nationals.
  • Responsible to execute mechanical maintenance implementation programs that match the department quality policy for the integrated oil & gas Production and Processing Facilities at PS-2 • Directs and reports the technical matters to the Mechanical Engineer (Offshore).
  • Receives weekly work schedule of work orders. Executes the daily activities, allocates work to lower grade technicians. Delegates appropriate "permit to Work" and ensures the appropriate site preparation and level of approvals prior to commencing work. 
  • Checks that all work orders and check lists are completed with actual man-hours taken, material used, date job completed and analysis codes. At the end of each shift, updates the Mechanical Engineer (Offshore) on the current situation within the Section, discusses any problem / delay requiring technical or logistical requirements in scheduled programmes.


    • Monitors the use of contractors and controls on-site mechanical work undertaken by contractors. Explains procedures at the "Permit to work" stage, coordinates such work with the Corporation's personnel within the Section, monitors and supervises work.
    • Utilise Corporation Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This requires reviewing of notifications and orders in CMMS on daily basis.
    • Receives verbal work orders, assists in the inspection and troubleshooting of malfunctioning machinery or engines, receives "permit to work", obtains tools and materials and proceeds to the work site.
    • Carries out predictive maintenance checks and tests on running equipment and machinery such as, compressors, pumps, turbines and other engines. Monitors temperatures and pressures, checks oil levels and the condition of intake filters and suction strainer and carries out regular vibration monitoring; provides feedback reports to supervisor.
    • Carries out routine preventive maintenance of machinery and equipment according to schedules, checks lists and specific equipment requirements. Includes changing oils, cleaning strainers and filters, greasing and general overhaul of equipment. Repair and/or replace parts found to be defective, reassembles overhauled equipment.

Required Experience and Skills

At least 8 years in the installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of wide range of rotating and static equipment within the Petrochemical or Petroleum offshore industry. Of this period, at least three years should have been with compressors, turbines, power generators and mechanical seals, etc,



Educational Qualifications

Completion of secondary (12 years) education and followed by 2 years full time training on Mechanical Engineering (equivalent to City & Guilds).


Good knowledge of English.
