Job description

The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to produce precision parts and components according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications. This role requires strong hands-on skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Requirements

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements
  
• Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other conventional machine tools
  
• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters based on material type and job requirements
  
• Measure, inspect, and verify finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges) to ensure conformance to tolerances
  
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machines to ensure optimal working condition
  
• Fabricate, repair, or modify parts and tools as required
  
• Maintain accurate production records, including job cards, time logs, and material usage
  
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace
  
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and quality control staff to resolve production issues
  
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency
  

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Diploma/ITI certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Machining Technology, or related trade
  
• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a manual machinist (industry-dependent)
  
• Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, and grinding equipment
  
• Strong knowledge of metals, materials, and their machining properties
  
• Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools
  
• Good mathematical skills (geometry, trigonometry) for calculations
  
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  
• Physical stamina for standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks
