Rigger – Responsibilities
- Prepare, inspect, and safely use lifting equipment such as slings, shackles, hooks, wire ropes, and chain blocks.
- Assist in lifting, moving, positioning, and securing heavy equipment, machinery, pipes, and structural materials.
- Select suitable lifting accessories based on the load weight, size, shape, and lifting plan.
- Follow approved lifting plans, method statements, permit-to-work procedures, and site safety requirements.
- Communicate with crane operators using standard hand signals and radio communication.
- Conduct pre-use inspections and report any damaged or defective lifting equipment immediately.
- Establish barricades and ensure the lifting area remains clear of unauthorized personnel.
Requirements
- Valid third-party Rigger certification from a recognized authority.
- Minimum 3–5 years of rigging experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Good knowledge of lifting equipment, load estimation, sling angles, centre of gravity, and safe working loads.
- Ability to understand lifting plans, risk assessments, method statements, and safety instructions.
- Familiarity with standard crane signals and radio communication procedures.
- Good understanding of HSE requirements, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems.
- Must be physically fit and capable of working at heights and in challenging site conditions.
- Basic English communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a lifting team
