Roles & Responsibilities
The Financial Controller is the financial backbone of the hotel. This role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring strict fiscal discipline, and providing strategic financial leadership. Working closely with the General Manager and corporate leadership, the Financial Controller safeguards hotel assets, optimizes profitability, and ensures compliance with accounting standards (such as USALI) and local regulations.
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Provide accurate financial forecasts and lead the annual budgeting process across all hotel departments.
- Analyze variances between actual results and budgeted/forecasted figures, providing actionable insights to department heads.
- Ensure compliance with the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
2. Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish, monitor, and enforce robust internal control policies and procedures to protect hotel assets.
- Oversee all audit functions, including internal, external, and government audits.
- Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, licensing laws, and financial legislation.
3. Operational & Cash Flow Management
- Manage and optimize cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure (CapEx) investments.
- Supervise the daily operations of the accounting department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Night Audit, and Payroll.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing and F&B departments to manage inventory controls, food/beverage costing, and minimize waste.
4. Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop the hotel finance and accounting team.
- Act as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and Department Heads to drive revenue and control costs.
- Present financial performance reports directly to hotel owners, investors, and corporate executives.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education: Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, or a related field. An MBA, CPA, or CMA certification is highly preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 2 3 years as a Financial Controller or Assistant Controller specifically within the hospitality/hotel industry .
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with hospitality Management Information Systems (e.g., Opera PMS, Micros POS).
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SUN Systems, Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
Key Competencies: Strong analytical thinking, impeccable integrity, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial managers.
