• Operate and navigate barges under the direction of tugboat masters or project supervisors
• Supervise and assist with barge mooring, anchoring, and unmooring operations
• Ensure proper loading, securing, and distribution of cargo to maintain barge stability
• Monitor barge draft, ballast levels, and stability during loading, transit, and discharge
• Conduct daily inspections of barge hull, deck, hatches, mooring lines, and equipment
• Perform routine maintenance including greasing, painting, and minor repairs
• Operate deck machinery such as winches, capstans, and hydraulic systems
• Maintain accurate logs including cargo manifests, fuel consumption, and daily activities
• Coordinate with tugboat crews and project teams for barge positioning and movement
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations including use of life jackets, PPE, and emergency procedures
• Assist in cargo loading and unloading operations using cranes or excavators when required
• Report any damage, incidents, or equipment failures to the Barge Supervisor immediately
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of barge deck and living quarters (if applicable)
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Barge Operator, Deckhand, or similar role on barges
• Valid certification as Barge Operator, Coxswain, or equivalent (preferred)
• Experience with deck barges, hopper barges, or flat-top barges
• Knowledge of cargo securing, ballasting, and stability principles
• Familiarity with tug and barge operations including towing and mooring procedures
• Basic understanding of marine diesel engines and deck machinery
• Valid offshore safety certificates (BOSIET/HUET) if working offshore
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Hindi/Urdu is a plus
