Roles & Responsibilities
The Systems Architect (Linux & Backup Services) is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and operation of enterprise Linux and backup platforms across on premises, hybrid, and multi cloud environments. The role has a strong focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Commvault Backup & Archive solutions, including Commvault Cloud Archive integrated with Azure and Google Cloud archive storage, ensuring high availability, security, compliance, and long term data retention across the organization.
Responsibilities-
Commvault Backup & Archive Architecture
Architect, implement, and operate enterprise Commvault Backup & Recovery platforms.
Design and manage Commvault Archive solutions, including long term data retention, tiering, and retrieval strategies.
Ensure backup and archive policies align with business, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Ensure backup platforms meet business RPO/RTO, compliance, and retention requirements.
Design secure, resilient, and cost optimized archive tiers for long term retention.
Support hybrid backup and archive use cases without requiring deep hyperscaler specialization.
Disaster Recovery & Resilience
Design and maintain backup and recovery strategies supporting business continuity and disaster recovery objectives.
Plan, execute, and document backup restore and DR testing scenarios.
Ensure backup platforms integrate with active active and multi site datacenter architectures where applicable.
Operations Excellence & Optimization
Integrate on premises Linux and backup environments with public cloud platforms.
Oversee performance tuning, capacity planning, and lifecycle management of Linux and backup platforms.
Optimize archive storage utilization and costs across on premises and cloud tiers.
Drive automation, standardization, and continuous operational improvement.
Support hybrid backup, cloud archive, and cloud based recovery use cases.
Security, Compliance & Hardening
Define and enforce Linux OS security standards including access control, logging, auditing, and system hardening.
Ensure backup data is protected through encryption, immutability, and secure access controls.
Support compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements related to data protection and system security.
Centralized Management & Monitoring
Implement centralized monitoring, alerting, and reporting for Linux and backup platforms.
Ensure unified visibility across on premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
Define operational KPIs, health dashboards, and capacity reports.
Project Delivery & Technical Leadership
Lead Linux and backup related initiatives end to end, including new deployments, upgrades, migrations, and modernization projects.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to system engineers and administrators.
Develop and maintain architecture documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.
Stakeholder & Cross Team Collaboration
Work closely with infrastructure, virtualization, database, security, and application teams.
Act as a technical interface with business users, vendors, and service providers.
Communicate technical designs, risks, and operational impacts clearly and professionally.
Qualification-
Necessary Knowledge and Experience to be able to do the Job
8–10 years of experience in enterprise Linux systems engineering and architecture.
Strong hands on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux in mission critical environments.
8–10 years of experience in with Commvault Backup, Recovery, and Archive solutions, including Commvault Cloud Archive.
Demonstrated experience integrating Commvault Archive with Azure and Google Cloud archive storage.
Strong understanding of backup, archive, retention, compliance, and disaster recovery concepts.
Education and Certification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Mandatory: Valid Commvault certification related to Backup & Recovery and/or Archive (e.g., Commvault Certified Professional / Specialist – Backup & Recovery or Archive).
Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, or higher) are highly desirable.
Job Specific Technical Skills
Expert knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration, hardening, and performance tuning.
Advanced expertise in Commvault Backup, Recovery, and Archive (Cloud Archive) platforms.
Experience with Azure and Google Cloud archive and storage integration.
Strong understanding of encryption, immutability, retention policies, and compliance controls.
Experience with centralized monitoring, automation, and scripting.
Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
