Specification
The Senior Consultant is the most senior physician within their specialty (after the Department Chair/Section Head), responsible for leading a team of consultants and junior doctors.
They oversee patient care, ensure clinical excellence, and are accountable for all medical decisions under their supervision.
In addition to providing expert-level care, the Senior Consultant contributes to strategic planning, research, teaching, and service development—working closely with leadership on staffing, training, budgeting, and quality improvement.
They serve as a role model in clinical leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Delivering direct patient care and clinical supervision
Leading and mentoring consultants and junior doctors
Contributing to departmental planning, training, and service development
Supporting research, education, and public health initiatives
Ensuring compliance with clinical standards and licensure requirements
Participating in committees, on-call scheduling, and policy implementation
Representing the department internally and externally
