Job Details

The purpose of the Aeromedical Assessor (MED) is to undertake, perform and accomplish the action(s) and task(s) required to ensure the effective application. enforcement and implementation of established Standards and Regulations, technical / medical requirements and procedures in respect of medical issues applicable to AeMCs and AMEs and administrations of personnel and organisations involved in such tasks. This job reports directly to the Aero-Medical Examiner.
Job-Specific Responsibilities · Appointment/designation of Aeromedical Examiners (AMEs), Aeromedical Centres (AeMCs) and renewal of AME authorisations. · Auditing and inspection of medical facilities and equipment of approved Aeromedical Centres. · Conduct examination, inspection and provide advise for approval of Aeromedical Centers (AeMC) and Aeromedical Examiners (AME). · Conduct routine and non-routine inspections and surveillance audits of AMCs, their facilities, manpower requirements, capabilities, etc. at their approved locations to ensure continued compliances with the established requirements. · Formation and coordination of medical review boards for borderline medical cases. · Handling of medical enquiries from applicants, the aviation industry and other parties. · Issuance of medical dispositions and medical certificates to applicants · Liaison with medical authorities of other ICAO Contracting States · Oversight of authorised Aeromedical Examiners. · Participation in incident and accident investigation as part of the Human Factors group. · Participation with other aviation stakeholders in National Aviation Emergency Preparedness planning and implementation. · Resolution of medical certification appeals and medical safety issues. · Review and assessment of medical examination forms and reports for the issue of medical certificates. · Review of medical conclusions of medical certificate holders. · Review of Medical regulations and procedures. · Supervision and training of other aeromedical staff. · Undertaking pre-medical assessments for airline operators as necessary. Job-Specific Qualifications · Conversant with aviation terminology · Preferably conversant with the ICAO Annex 1, EASA/JAA and FAA medical regulations.
Education: · Be a certified medical practitioner with MB BS, or MB ChB, or MD degree · Have obtained approved certificates and successfully passed examinations in both Basic and Advanced aviation medicine courses: · Post-graduate medical qualification in the relevant medical field of public health or Occupational Medicine
Experience:· At least 5 years experience as Aeromedical Assessor · Experience in coordination of medical certification, examination, regulatory, administrative, and training functions at a CAA Medical Office is an added advantage · Experience with making final decisions concerning the medical conditions of applicants Preferably have experience in liaising with other medical/aviation stakeholders within and outside the CAA, ICAO regional and international bodies, and other relevant organisations
