Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collect surface runoff to prevent water accumulation and flooding.
  • Convey water safely through drains, ditches, or stormwater systems.
  • Prevent soil erosion and manage sediment control.
  • Protect infrastructure and property from water damage.
  • Maintain water quality by reducing pollutants in runoff.
  • Manage flood risks through proper drainage planning.
  • Maintain and inspect systems regularly for efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and environmental standards.
  • Engage stakeholders in drainage planning and awareness.
  • Integrate systems with landscape and urban design for sustainability.
  • Lead the design and implementation of surface water drainage systems, ensuring compliance with local regulations and best practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive hydrological assessments to analyze drainage patterns and identify potential issues.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate drainage solutions within overall project designs, enhancing functionality and sustainability.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, illustrating drainage strategies and their impact.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of existing drainage systems, troubleshooting problems and proposing effective upgrades.
  • Utilize advanced modeling software to simulate drainage scenarios, optimizing designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and approve design calculations and drawings submitted by junior engineers, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and community stakeholders, addressing concerns and fostering positive relationships.
  • Monitor project budgets and timelines, ensuring that surface water management plans are delivered on schedule and within financial constraints.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to continuously improve drainage practices and methodologies.

Desired Candidate Profile

15 years of relevant experience

Have UPDA Grade A


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with a focus on water resources.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification demonstrating expertise in civil engineering practices.
  • Experience with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydrological modeling tools like HEC-RAS.
  • Strong understanding of local and national regulations governing water management and environmental protection.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of managing teams and guiding junior staff in project execution.
  • Analytical mindset with exceptional problem-solving skills to tackle complex drainage challenges.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in diverse teams, reflecting a commitment to inclusive practices.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus, especially in regions with diverse populations.
