Overview
The Senior Material Engineer is responsible for managing and controlling the quality, testing, and approval of construction materials used in civil engineering projects. The role ensures that all materials meet project specifications, industry standards, and contractual requirements while providing expert support to construction and QA/QC teams to achieve high-quality and durable project outcomes.
Your role
- Review, evaluate, and approve construction materials, mix designs, and material submittals.
- Supervise laboratory and field testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, bitumen, and related materials.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable standards (ASTM, BS, IRC, MORTH, AASHTO, etc.).
- Monitor and implement material quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) processes.
- Analyze test results, identify non-conformities, and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance to site teams on material-related issues and performance.
- Oversee calibration, operation, and maintenance of laboratory and testing equipment.
- Prepare and review material approval logs, test reports, and quality documentation.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, QA/QC, and construction teams on material matters.
- Supervise and mentor material engineers, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements related to materials testing.
Desired Candidate Profile
About you
- Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline. UPDA Grade A Registration required.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in construction material engineering.
- Strong knowledge of concrete technology, asphalt, soil mechanics, and pavement materials.
- Proven experience in field and laboratory material testing and inspections.
- Thorough understanding of QA/QC systems and construction material standards.
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, codes, and test results effectively.
- Experience in infrastructure, road/highway, or large civil construction projects preferred.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
- Leadership experience in managing teams and site-based activities.
