Job Description – Reservoir Engineer
The Reservoir Engineer will support the identification, screening and evaluation of upstream oil and gas investment opportunities across the company’s New Ventures and Business Development portfolio.
The role provides reservoir engineering expertise across exploration, appraisal, development and producing assets, supporting opportunity screening, technical due diligence and investment decision-making. The position works closely with geologists, geophysicists and commercial teams to assess reservoir performance, development feasibility and resource potential. The successful candidate will be capable of rapidly evaluating reservoir performance, development concepts and production potential, translating technical insights into clear inputs for commercial and investment decision-making.
Key Responsibilities1. Opportunity Screening & Technical Evaluation Evaluate upstream investment opportunities including exploration acreage, appraisal assets, development projects and producing fields. Conduct rapid reservoir engineering screening of acquisition targets, farm-in opportunities and licensing rounds. Assess reservoir deliverability, recovery potential and development feasibility.
2. Reservoir Characterisation & Performance Analysis Evaluate reservoir properties including porosity, permeability, pressure behaviour and fluid characteristics. Analyse well performance, production history and pressure data to assess reservoir performance. Identify key reservoir uncertainties impacting resource recovery and development planning. Support well placement decisions and production strategy development. Identify data acquisition requirements including well tests, pressure surveys and production logging.
3. Resource & Reserves Evaluation Support estimation of resources and reserves across exploration, appraisal and producing assets. Perform material balance analysis, decline curve analysis and reservoir performance forecasting. Support probabilistic assessments of reservoir uncertainty and recovery potential.
4. Field Development Evaluation Evaluate field development concepts including well spacing, production strategies and recovery mechanisms. Assess development scenarios, production profiles and recovery factors. Provide reservoir engineering input into development planning and project economics.
5. Technical Due Diligence Participate in technical data room reviews during acquisitions, farm-ins and asset transactions. Review reservoir models, development plans and production forecasts. Identify technical risks, uncertainties and value opportunities associated with reservoir performance.
6. Production & Brownfield Evaluation Evaluate producing assets including reservoir performance, depletion behaviour and production optimisation opportunities. Identify opportunities for infill drilling, workovers, secondary recovery or enhanced recovery methods. Assess near-field exploration and development potential.
7. Portfolio Support Provide reservoir engineering input into portfolio screening and ranking of upstream opportunities. Translate reservoir engineering insights into clear assessments of production potential, recovery factors and development risks. Support preparation of technical materials for investment committees and senior management discussions.
Qualifications and Experience Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or related discipline. MSc preferred
Experience Minimum 10 years of upstream oil and gas industry experience Experience across exploration, appraisal, development and producing assets. Experience in asset evaluation, reserves assessment or technical due diligence preferred. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams integrating geology, geophysics and reservoir engineering.
Technical Skills Reservoir performance analysis Decline curve analysis and production forecasting Material balance analysis Resource and reserves estimation/reserves audit Experience with evaluation of exploration, appraisal, development and producing assets Integrated subsurface evaluation across geology, geophysics and reservoir engineering
