Electrical Engineer Intern - Equipment Modification & Integration
Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer Intern to support hands-on equipment modification and integration projects. This position offers practical experience in electrical system design, installation, and troubleshooting while working with diverse electrical equipment. Ideal for students pursuing electrical or electronics engineering degrees who want to apply classroom knowledge to real-world applications.




Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Modification & Integration
  • Assist in analyzing existing electrical equipment to determine modification requirements



  • Design and implement electrical modifications to meet project specifications



  • Create wiring diagrams and connection schematics for equipment hookups



  • Install and configure electrical components, controls, and interfaces



  • Integrate multiple pieces of equipment into cohesive operational systems



Technical Documentation
  • Prepare detailed documentation of modifications and installations



  • Develop as-built drawings and wiring diagrams



  • Create operation and maintenance instructions for modified equipment



  • Maintain project logs and progress reports



Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Conduct electrical testing to verify proper equipment operation



  • Perform continuity, voltage, and current measurements



  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and implement corrective solutions



  • Ensure all modifications meet safety standards and electrical codes



Project Support
  • Collaborate with project team to understand equipment requirements



  • Research components, materials, and best practices for modifications



  • Assist in procurement of electrical components and materials



  • Support project scheduling and timeline management




Basic QualificationsEducation
  • Currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related degree program



  • Completed coursework in circuit analysis, electronics, and electrical systems



  • Junior or senior standing preferred (or equivalent technical background)



Technical Skills
  • Understanding of electrical theory, circuits, and power systems



  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings



  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)



  • Basic knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards (NEC familiarity a plus)



Practical Abilities
  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring and connections



  • Soldering skills and proficiency with hand tools



  • Ability to work safely with electrical equipment and power systems



  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship



Soft Skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in electrical engineering



  • Experience with CAD software for electrical design (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar)



  • Knowledge of PLC programming or industrial control systems



  • Familiarity with power electronics and motor controls



  • Experience with microcontrollers or embedded systems



  • Understanding of EMI/EMC considerations in electrical design



Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 35 pounds



  • Comfortable working in shop/laboratory environments



  • Capable of standing for extended periods during installations



  • Manual dexterity for detailed wiring and assembly work



  • Ability to work in various positions (standing, kneeling, reaching) as needed



Safety Requirements
  • Commitment to following all electrical safety protocols



  • Willingness to complete required safety training



  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)



  • Adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices
