Key Responsibilities:


  • If needed, collect blood and other specimens (using aseptic technique) required for laboratory testing from in-patients, outpatients, and others according to laboratory policies.
  • Understand and comply with the principles of infection control and other relevant standards.
  • Efficient management of daily operations of selected laboratory units to maintain the highest professional and quality standards of services.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards, laboratory safety regulations and quality control / quality assurance programs.
  • Prioritize laboratory requests according to criticality and ensure efficient workflows to produce turnaround times supportive of the laboratorys policies.
  • Determine the acceptability of samples, prepare specimens for analysis, and perform laboratory tests in accordance with standard test procedures.
  • Perform quality control procedures. Verify, document, and validate the accuracy of the laboratory data to assess the reproducibility and validity of current laboratory methods.
  • Ensure critical, abnormally high/low results or unacceptable specimens are communicated and properly documented.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and proper storage of patient records and test results. 


  • Assist with evaluation and implementation of relevant new laboratory services.


  • Ensure that preventive maintenance and calibrations are conducted periodically on all major analysers and instruments.


  • Comply with internal and external laboratory safety programs, including safe handling and proper disposal of specimens and other laboratory materials, and implementing of corrective actions, when necessary, in compliance with statutory requirements.


  • Ensure the health, safety and welfare of fellow employees, visitors, and contractors, so far as is reasonably practicable.


  • Record and maintain complete documentation throughout all phases of laboratory testing according to Laboratory and/or Hospital requirements.


  • Record and maintain effective inventory control to ensure uninterrupted workflow.


  • Record applicable patient data/results in Laboratory Information System.


  • Inform the Laboratory Director in case of any procedural discrepancies for appropriate action.


  • Participate in preparing the laboratory for accreditation by national and international bodies.


  • Comply with national and international accreditation requirements.


  • Comply with policies set down by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health and the Hospital.


  • Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.


  • Patient Safety-Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.

Experience to be able to do the job: Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience of which a minimum of 1 year should be in a similar position/responsibility, preferably in a similar industry.


Trained and experienced in the use, maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment and analysers.


Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24-hour on-call roster if required.


Education and Certification requirements:


Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science/technology or any other related field. 


Fulfil all licensing requirements.
