The Senior Project Engineer – Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is responsible for the engineering design, planning, execution support, and optimization of MPD solutions in line with Weatherford’s standards and Management System. This role acts as the primary technical interface with clients and internal stakeholders, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-performance MPD operations. The Senior Project Engineer demonstrates strong safety leadership, technical expertise, and client focus while supporting operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate commitment to Weatherford’s Rules, Management System, and all HSE, Security, Quality, and Compliance requirements.
Lead MPD engineering design, feasibility studies, and well planning activities.
Develop and review MPD well programs, operational procedures, contingency plans, and execution methodologies.
Prepare, review, and approve MPD engineering documentation including P&IDs, PFDs, safety zoning, and system layouts.
Serve as the primary MPD engineering focal point for clients, rig contractors, sales, operations, and third-party service providers.
Participate in and support HAZID/HAZOP, DWOPs, and all relevant well planning and client meetings.
Provide real-time engineering support during critical MPD operations, including fingerprinting, well control events, and kick/loss scenarios.
Review daily MPD operational data and provide corrective and preventative engineering recommendations.
Ensure all pre-job engineering, equipment readiness, certification, and mobilization activities are completed in accordance with Weatherford standards.
Prepare and deliver pre-mobilization briefings and support training for client engineers and rig crews.
Revise MPD programs and procedures based on lessons learned, Management of Change (MOC), and client-specific requirements.
Maintain accurate job tracking, KPI reporting, documentation, and archival of job data in WPTS/SharePoint.
Support technical audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational performance reviews as required.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to MPD Field Engineers and operations personnel.
Maintain financial accountability by ensuring costs are managed within approved budgets and company financial policies.
Perform other duties and activities safely as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills:
Strong technical expertise in MPD engineering, well control, and drilling operations.
Proficiency in MPD hydraulics, casing design, real-time data analysis, and operational modeling.
Experience using MPD well planning, monitoring, and engineering software.
Strong understanding of managed pressure drilling systems, equipment, and products.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and relevant engineering tools.
Ability to interpret technical procedures, drawings, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-risk operational environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Minimum 6–8 years of experience as an MPD Field Engineer or 8+ years as an MPD Project Engineer or equivalent.
Demonstrated competency in MPD field operations, MPD engineering, and managed pressure drilling products.
Onshore and/or offshore drilling and completions experience.
