Black & Grey HR is recruiting for a leading technology solutions and services provider in Doha, Qatar. Our client is looking to hire a Senior Network Technician who will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery, operations and maintenance of passive network architecture.
Responsibilities:
Network Systems Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end installation, termination, testing, and certification of UTP, fiber optic (single- and multi-core), and structured LAN cabling, adhering to TIA/ISO standards and site-specific requirements.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on cabling infrastructure to ensure network availability and compliance with service level agreements.
- Utilize specialized test equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters, Fluke testers) to validate performance and generate documentation for acceptance, handover, and audit trails.
- Conduct comprehensive site surveys and produce detailed reports, bills of quantities (BOQs), and material lists for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance tasks.
- Manage inventory of passive network components (cables, patch panels, termination kits, accessories) to ensure timely availability for all planned activities.
- Design and deploy structured cabling overlays for temporary venues and events, ensuring clear segregation from permanent base-build networks.
- Collaborate with active network teams on rack layouts, patching plans, labeling schemes, and IDF/MDF readiness to support project schedules.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate network drawings (using tools such as AutoCAD/Visio) and patching matrices, ensuring they reflect the as-built environment and follow change management protocols.
- Perform patching, cable dressing, and rack mounting of active devices, maintain patch cord organization, and provide L1 remote hands support for basic troubleshooting and changes as directed by Network Engineers.
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, permit-to-work systems, and site rules, maintaining a safe and professional work environment.
Communication & Documentation
- Prepare precise technical documentation, including site survey reports, test reports, as-built drawings, patching matrices, and handover packages.
- Document incident details, root causes, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement and team knowledge sharing.
- Communicate technical issues, work status, and requirements effectively to both technical teams (Network Engineers, Project Managers) and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide accurate material estimates, cable run details, and resource requirements to aid in planning, budgeting, and procurement.
- Maintain up-to-date records within ticketing and work-order systems, ensuring all jobs are properly logged, updated, and closed with relevant documentation.
Problem Solving Skills
- Diagnose and resolve complex passive network issues (cable faults, patching errors, fiber breaks, performance degradation) using advanced test equipment and systematic troubleshooting methods.
- Analyze recurring faults to identify root causes (design, installation, material, or operational) and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
- Propose and help implement improvements to tools, labeling standards, testing procedures, and documentation to enhance network reliability and reduce incidents.
- Provide on-site technical leadership during major incidents or events, coordinating with engineers, vendors, and operations to restore services within SLAs.
- Proactively identify risks (e.g., cable damage, rack congestion) and suggest improvements to increase network stability and ease of maintenance.
Requirements- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure/network support, with substantial hands-on expertise in structured cabling, campus LAN, and data center environments.
- At least 3–5 years in a Senior Network Technician or equivalent role, with experience managing field teams, subcontractors, and multiple concurrent work orders.
- Diploma in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical, or a related field is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (Computer Science, Electronics, or related) is preferred.
- Industry networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, HCIA, CompTIA Network+) are highly desirable.
- Structured cabling certifications (e.g., BICSI Installer/Technician, manufacturer certifications from CommScope/Nexans/Leviton, or FOA CFOT) are a significant advantage.
- In-depth expertise in passive cabling technologies: UTP/STP, fiber optic cabling, patch panels, LIUs, and structured LAN systems.
- Ability to design, interpret, and review cabling layouts, rack elevations, and event overlay plans in coordination with Network Engineers and project teams.
