Job Summary:
The Research Specialist II performs routine and moderately complex scientific laboratory technical work, selecting and applying laboratory procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives. Assignments may require investigation of a number of variables and complex features. Working with general supervision, the role is required to exercise judgment in making technical decisions related to delegated tasks, escalating complex issues.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- Contributes to the delivery of departmental goals, through personal effort in own work area.
- May make recommendations to the laboratory supervisor or principal investigator regarding improvements in methods and processes.
- Demonstrated expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, including guide RNA design, microinjection, screening, and validation of genetic models.
- Strong proficiency in imaging methodologies, fluorescence microscopy.
- Ability to conduct data analysis and interpretation, including statistical evaluation and data visualization.
- Working under general supervision performs all routine lab procedures (e.g. DNA, RNA and protein extraction and quantification, immunological assays such as ELISA, flow cytometry, tissue culture, molecular cloning techniques), and associated responsibilities, as dictated by the workload in the rostered area.
- Solves moderately complex problems and performs a specific variety of technical assignments within broader projects.
- May modify practices and techniques in routine situations to perform duties, adjust and correlates data, recognize discrepancies in results.
- Contributes to various research studies in the laboratory that include taking measurements and recording observations, collecting, compiling and processing data.
- Knowledge of laboratory best practices, including biosafety, animal welfare regulations, quality control, and compliance with institutional research standards.
- Trains junior lab technical staff in basics of research workflow.
- Competency in scientific writing and documentation, including SOPs, reports, and manuscripts.
- Adheres to lab SOPs and performs quality control checks.
- Stays current with literature in ongoing and proposed research projects.
- Assesses lab inventory and regularly orders supplies when needed.
- Receives and orders research consumables.
- May write manuscripts and present novel research and techniques to research group.

Qualifications,Experince and Skills:
Education
Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Preferred: Master’s Degree in a related field.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in research laboratory environment.
