  • The Librarian's role is to manage and maintain all company library-owned information resources and associated content.

  • This includes ensuring that the storing, archiving and taxonomical layout of information resources are consistent across and throughout the organization.

  • Develop and manage convenient and accessible library and information services to all members.



  • The Librarian's also ensures that all library functions are carried out in accordance with established policies; makes recommendations and presents reports to the Management; sets standards for collection development; and promotes and represents the library in the community and to other appropriate organizations.

  • The incumbent has a considerable degree of independence of action and judgement, contact as well as personnel matters within established policies and procedures.

  • Accountable for all action and decisions initiated by him to meet targets and goals as defined.

  • Provision of Library and research services to stakeholders.

  • Assists in preparation and control of library budget.

  • Accountable for asset management and relevant documentation.

  • Supervises all day-to-day library operations such as check-in, check-out, renewals, new library members, answering users' inquiries.

  • Assists the Recreational Supervisor for effective and efficient implementation of policies and procedures within Dukhan Community Center and Library.

  • Implements the library and information policies and procedures.

  • Designs and implements an ongoing planning process for the library.

  • Develops and implements an operation plan and work plan based on the Community Center's strategic plan.

  • Evaluates the library's ongoing efforts to meet the goals and objectives identified in the Community Center's strategic plan.

  • Directs the financial administration of the library to ensure cost-effectiveness of services and operations.

  • Prepares the library annual operating budget and present it for Management approval; monitors and oversees library expenditures.

  • Performs original and copy cataloguing for different library materials in a variety of languages and formats to facilitate the identification and use of library materials in accordance with International Cataloging Standards such as Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification System, AACR2, RDA rules in classifying and cataloging of Library Materials.

  • Develops a taxonomy system to classify and organize library information resources in a way that suits library users and assist them to identify the location of library materials inside the library.

  • Utilizes bibliographic tools such as OCLC and LC to import and export bibliographic records from and into Library Management System.

  • Builds and develops the library collection to serve the essential needs of the Company and its employees.

  • Manages and updates the Library's Page on the Company Intranet.

  • Oversees planning, organization and evaluation of Library programs and services to ensure they align with strategic objectives, fall within allocated resources and achieve most effective and efficient operation of the library.

  • Assists library users in locating and obtaining information and materials from within the library, online, or through interlibrary loan in order to answer reference questions either in person or by telephone or email.

  • Educates patrons, presents workshops, and prepares instructional aids regarding bibliographic instruction, computers and technology, and library materials and services.

  • Ensures a high-profile, Library's profile and keep the community informed of the evolving role of the library.

  • Prepares and conduct user satisfaction surveys to identify user's informational needs and to evaluate and enhance the provided library services and resources.

  • Establishes collection development policies and procedures.

  • Selects and acquires library information materials in print and non-print formats in line with the research, educational and operational needs of Qatar Petroleum and Dukhan Community.

  • Manages the processes by which library materials are ordered, received and tracked.

  • Manage and maintain the access to the library electronic resources and online databases.

  • Formulates and implements an ongoing technology planning process.

  • Creates, evaluates and implements policies and procedures for library technology.

  • Maintain web based virtual library equipped with the integrated library system.

  • Teach users how to use search functionality effectively & Liaises with IT staff and vendors.

  • Supervises the library environment to enhance the user experience.

  • Creates a welcoming and user-friendly physical environment that encourages all community members to use library services.

  • Creates and maintains a healthy and safe environment for library users and staff.

  • Supervises the ongoing operation and maintenance of the library's facility and related capital equipment.

  • Prepares quarterly and annual usage reports to the Management.

  • Maintains and analyzes library operating statistics.

  • Implements and maintain a comprehensive inventory of library print and non-print information material and identify any knowledge gaps and propose recommendations.

  • Assists the Recreational Supervisor in maintaining and reviewing the Community Centre & Library inventory listings.

  • Up-date the system/list whenever necessary.

  • Employs a variety of marketing and promotional tactics to raise awareness of the library and its programs and services.

  • Maintains contact and participates in collaborative programs with other libraries.

  • Prepares publicity materials to promote the library's programs and services online, in print, and through the Company Intranet.

  • Liaise with different departments to optimize the benefit of the available resources and services.



  • Bachelor degree in Library Science or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 6 years of library experience with 3 years progressive management experience.

  • Proficient in relevant Computer applications.

  • Relevant Certification from International Library Association will be an advantage.

  • Proficient in English and Arabic (oral and written)

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Accountable for ensuring safe conditions in Dukhan Community Center and the Library.



  • Salary:

    • Monthly Rate in QAR Plus Allowance



  • Work Schedule:

    • 8 Hours / 5 Days





  • Duration:

    • 2 years, with possible extension
