Job Description – Commissioning Electrical Lead Supervisor

Job SummaryThe Commissioning Electrical Lead Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising all electrical commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through final handover. The role ensures that electrical systems are installed, tested, energized, and commissioned safely and in full compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements. This position involves close coordination with construction, engineering, instrumentation, and operations teams to achieve successful project delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise electrical commissioning activities across all project phases.
Review electrical drawings, specifications, method statements, and commissioning procedures.
Plan and execute commissioning schedules, test plans, and energization activities.
Supervise testing and commissioning of electrical systems including LV, MV, HV, transformers, switchgear, motors, generators, UPS, protection relays, and earthing systems.
Coordinate with construction, instrumentation, control, and operations teams to ensure readiness for commissioning.
Ensure pre-commissioning checks, loop checks, insulation resistance tests, functional tests, and system integration tests are completed as per standards.
Identify, record, track, and close punch points, non-conformities, and commissioning issues.
Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, electrical safety rules, and permit-to-work systems.
Liaise with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors during commissioning and handover stages.
Review and approve commissioning reports, test records, and as-built documentation.
Support system handover to operations and maintenance teams, including training where required.
Essential QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 8–12 years of experience in electrical commissioning, with at least 3–5 years in a lead or supervisory role.
Proven experience in large-scale projects such as Oil & Gas, Power Plants, Utilities, Industrial Plants, or Infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of electrical commissioning procedures and international standards (IEC, IEEE, BS).
Hands-on experience with LV/MV/HV systems, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, generators, and UPS systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and schematics.
Experience with protection testing, relay coordination, and energization procedures.
Familiarity with commissioning documentation, test sheets, and system handover requirements.
Strong leadership, supervision, and team coordination skills.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities during commissioning phases.
Effective communication skills for coordination with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
