Job Purpose:
To ensure the health and welfare of farm animals by diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases, while supporting optimal productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine health checks and examinations of livestock (e.g., cattle, sheep, goats, poultry).
- Diagnose and treat sick or injured animals using appropriate medical techniques.
- Administer vaccinations and medications.
- Advise on animal nutrition, breeding, housing, and general care.
- Monitor and support biosecurity and disease control measures.
- Perform or assist in surgeries or birthing procedures when required.
- Maintain accurate medical and treatment records for all animals.
- Train farm staff on animal welfare, health monitoring, and proper handling procedures.
- Stay updated with developments in veterinary science relevant to farm practices.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards for animal health and welfare.
Skills
Qualifications & Skills:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Licensed and registered to practice veterinary medicine in [Country/Region].
- Experience in large animal/farm animal practice is preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physically fit and willing to work in outdoor/farm environments.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to animals, farm environments, and sometimes adverse weather.
- On-call duty may be required for emergencies outside regular working hours.
