Study Team Leader (O&G | Petrochem)

  • This is a senior management position responsible and accountable for managing the study activities associated with the Asset Integrity scopes for the Idd El Shargi Asset Organization (IS).
  • Key accountabilities include managing the compilation of the Scope of Work, tendering of SOW, issuing Purchase Order to the successful Contractor and thus directing and coordinating the study contractor to ensure technical integrity is maintained at a high standard aligned with OI requirements.
  • The Study Team Leader supports the E&C Manager to ensure that the study is delivered utilizing the COMPANY Standards and Shell DEP for the Idd El Shargi’s surface / subsea facilities.
  • Requires resolution of conflicting priorities related to production, maintenance and plant repairs.
  • Focused on delivery of the Asset Integrity report while maintaining the highest level of safety awareness
  • Optimization of Study execution plans while performing the work with focus on personal and process safety.
  • Assessment and optimization of factors such as: equipment reliability; resource availability and cost.
  • Influence other managers to implement the optimal study solutions.
  • Resolution of contractual disputes and conflicts in the context of high value and technically complex work scopes.
  • This requires skill in conflict resolution, deep understanding of the technical and contractual aspects of the business and the ability to carry-out unprejudiced interpretation of the contractual terms and conditions. For example, resolving a deadlock negotiation with a specialist vendor could involve accepting certain indemnifications. Such decisions require a clear understanding of the risk and reward profile and associated business implications.


Your Tasks


  • The Primary role shall be pulling together a Scope of Work utilizing I.S. resources part time with support from PTE. The SOW shall define what is required as the output from the study
  • Liaising with all relevant departments within I.S. to ensure all salient points are covered in the Scope of Work thus capturing all the important issues.
  • Support the execution of the Scope of Work by providing the input into the technical review process utilizing the Technical Authorities in house and PTE.
  • Manage the execution of the Scope of Work to ensure Operations are fully aware of the ongoing work scope.
  • Follow the COMPANY process to get the necessary Management approvals and then the SOW shall be issued to the various Engineering Contractors for tender to carry out the study.
  • On receipt of the formal bids the Scope of work shall be technically assessed for compliance.
  • The COMPANY internal award process shall be followed and the successful contractor to be formally notified and then “kick off” meeting arranged.
  • Support the engineering resources internally and externally for execution of the study to ensure all schedule dates are met and costs are managed.
  • Following on to manage the engineering consultant involving all stakeholders to be responsible for the final issue of the Asset Integrity study.
  • Advise the E&C Manager about progress, opportunities, potential threats and critical problem issues associated with the study
  • Provide expertise and resources to support the study completion.
  • Provide mentoring and development of Qataris who participate in the study scope.
  • Complete the study, collate comments and ensure study project is issued to all parties and formally closed out.


Your Profile


  • Minimum of 20 years O&G industry experience
  • Ten years in Facility projects preferred
  • Recognized expertise and leadership in engineering and project management
  • Experience in contract development, negotiation, execution and dispute resolution
  • Experience in operational troubleshooting, process risk management and construction & commissioning methods
  • Ability to effectively communicate Idd El Shargi vision, strategies and programs to OOGC management, Idd El Shargi employees, COMPANY counterparts and other stake holders.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to direct program, motivate personnel at all organizational levels, mentor and build teamwork and action around common goals.
  • Working knowledge of company business processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing and measuring work through the use of appropriate metrics and key performance Indicators
