Overview

The Power Plant Supervisor provides technical/operational guidance and supervision to a team. Responsible to perform operations, maintenance and services on the power plant system. Monitors the power plant to maintain uninterrupted power; to include, prime/stand-by generators and maintains a daily log to determine future power plant requirements.

A solid understanding of the following:

  • Ability & understanding to operate and maintain a Government Power Plant & two temporary leased power plants using multiple packaged generator sets and necessary infrastructure to fuel the gensets, control and monitor the equipment, and transmit the generated power to main power plant switchgear.
  • Must have the experience & technical knowledge to operate a Government Power Plant & two temporary leased power plants while providing a reserve to meet N+2 requirements at peak load.

Must have the ability & understanding to supply, install and commission peak-shaving gensets, electronic synchronization equipment, step-up transformer(s), fuel storage & dispensing equipment, switchgear and associated cabling, coupled with the engineering expertise to fully integrate the additional power.

Responsibilities

  • Generating, monitoring, tracking and reporting on all Power Generation documentation & requirements.
  • Monitoring and generating power generation/distribution reports as daily.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly power distribution/generation graphs and reports.
  • Provide a safe and secure workplace.

  • Provide operational guidance to ensure compliance with the PWS while delivering results to our operational customers.

  • Inspire and motivate employees by recognizing achievement. Counsel, coach and mentor.
  • Conducts & oversees the preventive and corrective maintenance programs in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) & the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
  • Evaluates all maintenance request forms, sets priorities, and process work assignments.
  • Monitors all operations of the Power Plant staff.
  • Perform inspections and provide maintenance for all non-tactical generators and associated equipment such as: automatic and manual transfer switches, synchronizing panels and automatic fuel system.
  • Provide all electrical connections and disconnections to and from all facilities that require generated power.
  • Ensure that all generators are properly grounded by not exceeding 2 ohms resistance per grounding rod.
  • Projected Maintenance Plan for the next month, 7 calendar days before month end, unit by unit, and the projected time for maintenance.
  • Conducts training on life safety and other programs
  • Provides reports on all life safety, quality, and maintenance issues
  • Performs routine inspections of all maintenance sections
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • High School or equivalent experience; professional certification preferred
  • Experience:
    • Four (4) years of related experience with 2-3 years in a supervisory role of a similar project/department/branch related to these functions. Must possess overall technical knowledge of diesel-engine generator power plant operations, paralleling and load sharing operational strategies, and must possess extensive experience in testing of electrical generation and distribution systems, and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of NEC and relevant codes. Must be able to demonstrate good oral, written and listening skills.
    • Experience working with CAT 3608 and 3512 Generators is a plus but not mandatory as all Generators are these models only.
    • Incumbent must demonstrate a high degree of English comprehension, including speaking, understanding, reading, writing, and typing. Must be capable of speaking clearly to an audience and provide Government presentations. Supervises 35 personnel. Must be detailed oriented and organized.
  • Skills:
    • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Manages 35 Foreign National direct reports and reports to the Power Plant Manager.
  • Working Conditions:
    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
