Secondary Reporting to: Head of Primary School
In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. He/She should be an outstanding learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of creating an environment of mutual support and respect by identifying and addressing factors that inhibit learning. He/she should be able to provide support to students, staff and parents to facilitate the development of an internationally minded community which shares a common interest in preserving the environment, caring for each other and engaging enthusiastically in learning.
Requirements
- 1 Qualifications and experience. The school prefers people with:
1.1 Bachelor's degree in School Counselling or equivalent
1.2 Experience in IB school setting with Primary school work experience
1.3 Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a culturally diverse student and parent population.
- 2 Knowledge and Skills. He/She should:
2.1 be aligned with the ISL values of belonging, integrity, grit and kindness
2.2 possess excellent communication skills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an international school, in particular he/she should be able to communicate effectively in English
2.3 have a high level of understanding of current research as to how children learn and possess the ability to motivate students to perform at their best
2.4 be able to develop rapport with students and create an atmosphere of trust and respect
2.5 be adept and accomplished at Primaryschool counselling.
2.6 be able to model and promote the IB Learner Profile
2.7 be able to participate fully in an expanding IB school and, in particular, help to develop the team spirit within learning support
2.8 have the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload
2.9 Adhere to the highest ethical standards in counseling, including maintaining confidentiality, informed consent, and ensuring the well-being and safety of all students.
3.1 To attend meetings with the PrimarySchool Leadership Team (PSLT) and Inclusion and Well-being Team
3.2 Provide comprehensive counseling services in accordance with ISCA standards, including individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, and preventive programs to address the social and emotional needs of Primaryschool students.
3.3 Conduct regular needs assessments to identify students' academic, social, and emotional needs, and develop tailored intervention plans based on these assessments.
3.4 Advocate for the well-being of students by collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure that students receive the necessary support and resources to succeed academically and emotionally.
3.5 Utilize data-driven approaches to make informed decisions about counseling strategies and interventions, with a focus on student outcomes and well-being.
3.6 Collaborate with educational stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and external agencies, to create a collaborative and supportive environment that fosters student success and well-being.
3.7 To facilitate workshops aimed at enhancing the social and emotional well-being of the school community and specific interest groups within the school community.
3.8 To actively engage in and contribute to Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings when necessary, fostering collaboration and open communication between the counseling department, parents, and the school community.
3.9 To actively participate in school assemblies to share valuable information related to social and emotional development, promoting awareness and understanding among students and staff
3.10 To assist in the coordination and organization of school events as needed, with a focus on promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.
3.11 Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.
3.12 To actively participate in the induction program for new staff members.
