Homeroom Teacher

A Primary homeroom teacher is responsible for facilitating the learning of students in the elementary school from grades 1-6.

Teachers must create lesson plans, incorporate technology, administer praise and constructive criticism, instruct and inspire students in Science, English, and Math.

Duties and responsibilities are:
• Motivating and stimulating children’s learning abilities
• Encourage learning through experience
• Provide support to the children’s learning environment
• Develop and produce visual aids and teaching resources
• Assist with the development of children’s personal, social and language abilities
• Help develop the children’s basic skills, including speech and communication
• Encourage children’s creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play
• Observing, assessing and recording each child’s progress
• Ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities
• Maintain and schedule weekly and monthly activities
• Participate in ongoing in service and education development opportunities
• Advise and cooperate with the Head of Department, Head of Academics and Vice Principal and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and lesson planning and assessment
• Register and monitor the attendance of students under one’s care
• Nurture a culture where teachers view themselves essentially as facilitators of learning and reflective practitioners
• Make use of technology during the delivery of the lesson
