Rheinmetall Barzan Advanced Technologies (RBAT) is in search of a Systems Safety Engineer with expertise in the Defense Industry. The role entails carrying out systems safety processes to ensure the safety and reliability of complex military systems in Doha, Qatar. You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including systems engineers from various fields under the Technology Department, to meet these role expectations.
This role focuses on the assessing and ensuring the safety and reliability of military systems being developed, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, analyze, and mitigate potential safety hazards and risks associated with our defense systems, ensuring the developed systems meet strict safety standards and regulation requirements.
Responsibilities
Systems Safety (Military Systems)
- Work with systems engineers, customers, and end-users to achieve an in-depth understanding of the developed systems’ safety needs.
- Conduct comprehensive hazard identification and risk analysis for complex defense systems, including hardware and software components.
- Develop and maintain safety requirements, guidelines, and standards that align with industry and regulatory safety standards.
- Perform safety assessments, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), to quantify and assess safety risks.
- Participate in safety reviews, design reviews, and system safety assessments to identify and address potential safety issues.
- Provide safety recommendations and solutions for risk mitigation, including design modifications, redundancy, and safety interlocks.
- Create and maintain detailed safety documentation, including Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis Reports, and Safety Verification and Validation Plans.
- Oversee safety testing and validation activities to ensure that systems meet safety requirements and operate safely.
- Investigate and analyze safety-related incidents, accidents, or anomalies to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Support all the project execution phases, including development, documentation, integration, tests, and system final installation.
- Stay up to date with defense industry best practices and emerging trends in systems safety engineering.
- Interface with regulatory authorities and certification bodies to ensure compliance with defense industry safety regulations and standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the organization through training, awareness campaigns, and safety education programs.
System Requirements Specifications (SRS)
- Translate the performed analysis output into the technical functional or non-functional safety requirements.
- Maintain system/subsystem safety requirements via requirements management tools.
System Design
- Perform feasibility assessment, evaluate trade-offs, and design alternatives in realization of the system safety requirements.
- Generate or update system architecture diagrams, including high-level and detailed architectural behavioral and physical views within systems safety perspective.
- Collaborate closely with system architects, engineers, and designers to integrate safety considerations into the system design and development processes.
- Document system safety decisions, rationale, and limitations.
- Engage in architectural reviews and contribute recommendations for safety aspect of the system's architecture.
- Collaborate with development teams to translate architectural safety descriptions into actionable development tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering field.
- Defense Industry experience is must.
- Proven experience (8+ years) in Systems Safety Engineering or the similar role within Defense Domain.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to defense systems, such as MIL-STD-882 and DEF STAN 00-56.
- Proficiency in safety analysis tools and methodologies, including FMEA, FTA, and system safety assessments.
- Participated in large-scale defense projects.
- Possess Command and Control, C4ISTAR, Unmanned Combat Systems, and air defense domain knowledge.
- Possess general knowledge of military products, weapon systems, infrared/optical systems, RADARs, RF Receivers, Command Posts.
- Experience in JIRA and requirement management tools (i.e., DOORS, R4J).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- Certification in System Safety Engineering is a plus.
