The Head of Industrial Sector will be responsible for establishing, developing, and leading the Group's Industrial Sector, with an initial focus on steel and copper manufacturing. The role will lead the end-to-end development of greenfield manufacturing projects, from investment opportunity assessment and feasibility studies through engineering, construction, commissioning, operational excellence, and commercial growth. The successful candidate will be an experienced industrial executive with a proven track record of establishing heavy industrial manufacturing facilities from the ground up and transforming them into profitable businesses.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Leadership Develop and execute the Group's Industrial Sector strategy aligned with corporate objectives. Identify new industrial investment opportunities within Qatar and international markets. Lead strategic planning and long-term industrial expansion initiatives. Present investment recommendations and business cases to the Board of Directors and Executive Management. Drive sustainable growth and profitability across all industrial businesses.
2. Industrial Business Development Identify opportunities in steel, copper, aluminum, metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, and related sectors. Conduct comprehensive market research and competitive analysis. Develop investment strategies and expansion plans. Build strategic partnerships with international manufacturers, technology providers, and investors. Lead mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances where applicable.
3. Greenfield Factory Development Lead the complete establishment of manufacturing facilities including:Market feasibility studies. Technical feasibility studies. Financial modeling and investment analysis. Factory master planning. Manufacturing process selection. Technology evaluation. Equipment specification and procurement. Production line design. Factory layout optimization. Utility planning. Capacity planning. Automation systems. Smart manufacturing solutions. Factory commissioning. Production startup. Ramp-up to full commercial operation.
4. Engineering & Project Management Provide executive oversight for:EPC contractors. Engineering consultants. Civil works. Mechanical works. Electrical works. Infrastructure development. Utilities installation. Equipment installation. Factory commissioning. Project schedules. Budget management. Risk management.
5. Manufacturing Operations Develop and oversee:Production planning. Manufacturing excellence. Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Continuous Improvement programs. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Operational Excellence. Quality Management Systems. Maintenance strategy. Warehouse operations. Inventory management. Supply chain optimization. Production KPIs. Drive productivity improvements while reducing manufacturing costs.
6. Financial Management Responsible for:CAPEX planning. Operational budgets. Manufacturing cost optimization. Investment evaluation. Financial forecasting. Profitability improvement. EBITDA growth. ROI achievement. Working capital optimization. Monitor financial performance across all industrial businesses.
7. Commercial & Supply Chain Leadership Develop sourcing strategies for raw materials. Negotiate strategic supplier agreements. Build relationships with local and international suppliers. Support commercial teams in market expansion. Optimize procurement and logistics operations. Ensure uninterrupted production through efficient supply chain management.
8. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with:Qatar industrial regulations. Environmental legislation. Occupational Health & Safety standards. ISO standards. Industrial licensing requirements. Civil Defense requirements. Ministry approvals. International manufacturing standards.
9. Digital Transformation Lead implementation of:ERP systems. Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Industry 4.0 initiatives. Industrial automation. Predictive maintenance technologies. Production analytics. Smart factory initiatives.
10. Leadership & Organizational Development Establish the Industrial Sector organizational structure. Recruit and develop executive leadership teams. Build high-performing engineering and manufacturing organizations. Develop succession plans. Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, safety, and continuous improvement. Mentor Plant Managers and senior engineering leaders.
Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline. MBA or Master's Degree in Engineering Management is highly preferred.
Experience Minimum:20 years of industrial manufacturing experience. At least 10 years in executive leadership roles. Proven experience establishing multiple greenfield manufacturing facilities from concept to commercial operation. Experience leading industrial businesses with revenues exceeding USD 100 million is preferred. International experience within the GCC is highly desirable.
