JOB SUMMARY:


The Trainer - Life Support provides instruction for Sidra staff (and other healthcare staff and students in Qatar if needed) in AHA Life Support Training Courses following the prescribed curriculum.  The Trainer - Life Support assists in Simulation Center commissioning activities, onboarding of Sidra staff, and continuing education for practicing staff at Sidra as well as students from local clinical universities.


KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Instructor for AHA Life Support Training Programs for Sidra staff, community and healthcare professionals, and clinical students.


  • Answers student questions in a competent and effective manner.


  • Performs and rates student practical skills evaluations according to AHA protocols.


  • Administers and grades AHA-approved written examinations for Life Support Training.


  • Ensures the reporting of grades (pass/fail) to the training center.


  • Ensures instructor evaluations are returned to the training center.


  • Continuously evaluates training programs and makes recommendations for improvement.


  • Works with the other simulation team members in various areas of Simulation Center development (facilities, educational and technological resources, equipment planning, procedures, staffing, etc.).


  • Makes recommendations for development of life support training programs in collaboration with the Sidra Education team and external stakeholders and delivers these to the highest educational standard within Sidra’s educational framework and local, regional, and AHA guidelines.


  • Makes recommendations and assists in the procurement process for equipment and consumables for Life Support Training programs; tracks and replaces supplies and equipment as necessary.


  • Plans and delivers training sessions in relation to Sidra’s mission statement and promoting high standards of clinical care, advocating patient safety and teamwork.


  • Develops and distributes training material where required.


  • Develops assessment strategies for skills validation through various modalities.


  • Assesses the effectiveness of training in achieving learning outcomes and assesses skill retention.  Makes recommendations for most effective mode of delivery of Life Support Training.


  • Uses and operates different life support technology including mannequins, task trainers, cardiac and respiratory equipment, and other simulation equipment as required.


  • Uses advanced digital AV systems, as well as Sidra’s CIS, LMS, ERP, and other systems related to work in the Simulation Center and Education.


  • Ensures the training delivered complies with legal and regulatory requirements in Qatar, AHA requirements, and other Simulation Center requirements.


  • Assists with commissioning of the simulation center/life support training area and the process of onboarding of Sidra staff.  After onboarding, provides continuing education for Sidra staff, other members of the community, and students of academic partners/affiliates.


  • Develops educational standards and practice guidelines for life support training.


  • Ensures that current Health and Safety legislation is complied with and local codes of practice are followed.


  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


ESSENTIAL


PREFERRED



Education


Diploma/Associates degree in health care related field.


Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field.



Experience


  • 3+ years as a practicing clinician in a healthcare setting.


  • 2+ year’s healthcare education experience including 1+ years’ experience as an AHA Life Support Training course instructor in a healthcare or academic setting.


  • 2+ years’ experience as an AHA Life Support instructor



Certification and Licensure


  • Current licensure as healthcare practitioner (nursing, medicine, or allied health).


  • Certification as an instructor in at least one AHA Life Support Training Course (BLS, ACLS, etc.).


  • Certification as an instructor in more than one AHA Life Support Training Course (BLS, ACLS, etc.)


  • Certification as instructor trainer for AHA Life Support Courses



Professional Membership



Job Specific Skills and Abilities


  • Demonstrated ability to operate various types of life support training equipment (manikins, defibrillators, respiratory equipment, etc.).


  • Practical experience in performing the skills taught in an emergency setting and the ability to communicate the skills to students in a clear and precise manner.


  • Understanding of principles of adult education.


  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.


  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.


  • Fluency in written and spoken English.


  • Ability to operate various types of simulation and AV equipment.


  • Ability to give presentations at meetings and conferences.


  • Membership in simulation societies such as SSH, SESAM, etc.


  • Familiarity with and Simulation Center AV/LMS systems.


  • Experience with various modes of simulation.


  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
