Install, configure, and maintain networking hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues, including bandwidth and connectivity problems.
- Support and maintain local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and virtual private networks (VPN).
- Implement network security protocols to protect the organization from external and internal threats.
- Provide technical support for network-related issues and liaise with third-party vendors for hardware/software support.
- Perform regular network performance assessments and recommend improvements.
- Configure and manage network monitoring tools to identify issues and track usage metrics.
- Collaborate with other IT departments to integrate network solutions with other technology systems.
- Document network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Assist in network upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding network security and data protection.
Skills
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience working as a Network Specialist or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
- Proficiency with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and network monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with network security concepts and firewalls (e.g., configuring ACLs, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems).
- Hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
- Knowledge of cloud networking, SD-WAN, and virtualization technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
- Ability to configure and manage wireless networks (Wi-Fi).
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
- Knowledge of network performance optimization and traffic analysis tools.
- Familiarity with networking in virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with network storage technologies (NAS, SAN).
