Job Summary

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist is responsible for providing exercise counseling and prescription services to patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, and musculoskeletal diseases and disorders. Working across various healthcare settings, the role involves assessing patients, interpreting test results, designing individualized exercise programs, monitoring progress, and educating clients on self-care and lifestyle improvements. The aim is to enhance quality of life, manage health risks, and promote lasting health behavior changes.

Job Responsibilities 1

  • Works with patients and clients challenged with cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, and musculoskeletal diseases and disorders, as well as with apparently healthy populations in cooperation with other healthcare professionals.
  • Enhances quality of life, manages health risk, and promotes lasting health behavior change.
  • Interprets various diagnostic tests and assessments related to exercise physiology, such as stress tests, pulmonary function tests, and metabolic evaluations.
  • Designs safe and effective exercise programs tailored to individual patient needs, considering factors like age, health condition, fitness level, and goals.
  • Monitors patients' progress during exercise interventions, adjusts programs as needed, and tracks outcomes to ensure effectiveness and safety.
  • Conducts assessments of patients' health status, including medical history, risk factors, physical capabilities, and functional limitations, and individualized exercise training to promote lifestyles that improve chronic disease and health conditions.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive patient records, documents assessments.

  • Provides clear instructions and guidance to the patients.
  • Instructs patients on testing procedures, exercise program components, proper techniques, safety precautions, and self-care strategies.
  • Establishes rapport with patients, collaborates with healthcare teams,
  • Provides motivational support and encouragement to help patients overcome barriers, maintains adherence to exercise programs, and achieve their health and fitness goals.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and precautions to minimize risks during exercise interventions, including emergency procedures and appropriate use of equipment.
  • Practices in accordance with approved quality standards and guidelines in order to achieve evidence-based best practice.
  • Participates in initiatives to enhance the quality and effectiveness of exercise interventions and patient care.
  • Provides feedback, offers suggestions for change and deals effectively with the impact of change on own practice, the team, and the Center.
  • Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and psychologists, to provide comprehensive care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Stays aware of cultural diversity and sensitivity to patients' beliefs, values, and preferences when delivering exercise counseling and education.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and continuing education courses, and staying updated on advances in exercise physiology and healthcare practices.

Job Experience
