The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses nine departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature and Linguistics, Arabic Language, Mass Communication, History, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, International Affairs, Policy, Planning and Development, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. The College also houses Master Programs, which are M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, M.A. in Gulf Studies, M.A. in Arabic Language and Literature, M.Sc. in Materials Science and Technology, and M.Sc. in Applied Statistics. In addition to a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Gulf Studies. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers. Also, there are two established research centers namely the Center for Sustainable Development and the Gulf Studies Center.
CSD Profile
The Center for Sustainable Development aims to develop sustainable and integrated solutions which address many contemporary and significant challenges posed by the rapid economic and demographic changes of the State of Qatar. Our holistic vision for interdisciplinary and innovative research enables us to identify the key priorities by working together with relevant stakeholders. This way, our research is based on a demand-driven approach and oriented towards tailor-made solutions that are economically feasible, socially acceptable, and environmentally sustainable, ultimately leading to an improved quality of life in the State of Qatar and the broader region. Currently, our emphasis is on research areas related to Biotechnology, Food-Energy-Water-Waste Sustainability and Human Sustainability. We strive to create interdisciplinary research that is aligned with Qatar’s National Research Strategy, the Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as the research agenda of QU. We are committed to innovative and applied research to address the major challenges of sustainable development in Qatar. We aim to enhance local capacity and secure additional external resources, to conduct demand-driven research on sustainable development. One of our main goals is to develop research collaborations and active research groups, while effectively engaging the industry, students, and academic peers in our activities. Alongside research, we welcome staff and students in our capacity building activities. We are interested in collaborating with local and international industrial and academic partners to advance the knowledge on sustainable development.
It is worth mentioning that as members of QU, CSD faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure intramural and extramural funding for their research ideas. Qatar Research Development and Innovation (QRDI) is a major source of research funding along with student research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, QU is the recipient of most of QNRF/QRDI awards, with much research-active faculty members able to win multiple grants.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Center for Sustainable Development is looking to fill a full-time Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Research Professor position in sustainable Water Resources management. The position is open to individuals who hold a PhD in Water management or a closely related field. Research expertise should encompass in addition to arid and semi-arid water resources management, biotechnology and biocatalyst-based water treatment, water desalination and resource recovery. Knowledge in membrane based-water treatment and recycling, desalination as well as in new water storage media for arid and semi-arid zones is essential. Utilization and disposal of residuals, plans to protect fresh water and the use of groundwater sources in a sustainable manner should complete the profile. Rigorous development and application of lifecycle and technoeconomic modeling is desirable. Fieldwork experience is considered an asset. Preference will be given to those with good research and teaching experience. Good communication skills, both verbal and writing as effective communication skills in English are essential.
- The candidate is expected to teach in areas of expertise and co-supervise students in accordance with QU policy.
- The candidate is also expected to contribute to various committees at the Center, College, and University levels.
- The successful candidate is also expected to lead or collaborate simultaneously in multiple projects in line with the CSD vision and Qatar National Research Priorities.
- The candidate should participate in enhancing the international visibility of QU through participation in international scientific events and building collaborations with worldwide peer academic institutions.

Qualifications
- Ph. D. in Water management or a closely related field.
- Strong peer-reviewed publication record
- Have at least five years of teaching experience after PhD at university level.
- The candidate must be familiar with educational technologies used in higher education sector.
- Awareness of working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Candidates must have an emerging research record and trajectory in water management and treatment domain, evidenced by existing or forthcoming articles in highly rated academic journals and/or books with leading academic presses.
- The candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluency in English is required.
