VP Engineering

Qatar Airways Group is looking for a Vice President to oversee and manage Qatar Airways' engineering operations, activities and standards, to ensure the highest quality and safety levels at all times along with SVP-CAMO. The executive will represent the Qatar Airways QCAR Part-M CAME and thus has a responsibility and duty to ensure the effective management of all personnel, technical, legal and economic activities within Technical Engineering.

Accountabilities:

Strategic:

  • Accountable for establishing and maintaining an Engineering, Technical Services and Development organization within Qatar Airways Technical division, to ensure a correct maintenance program, and responsible for all procedures of the Engineering and Development department in accordance with Continuing Airworthiness Procedures (CAP).
  • Development and review of maintenance programs utilizing  the most economic solutions for requirement integration to Develop Maintenance Programs and customize Vendor Maintenance Planning Data (MPD).
  • Responsibility for development of design changes and the preparation of engineering and certification documents.
  • Ensures resources, systems and procedures are in place for the safe and cost effective on-time completion of all aspects of the support services to the Technical operations.

Operational: 

  • Support other Departments to provide a serviceable Aircraft in accordance with operational requests taking into consideration efficient and economic points of view.
  • Liaise with QA regarding CAME and CAP procedures for Engineering.
  • Evaluation of Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletin.
  • Oversee  reliability analysis with consequences for departments and maintain a reliability system that controls component and system reliability to access and react to fault accumulation at specific control limits and satisfies aviation authority requirements for all operations.
  • Oversee reliability analysis with consequences  for  maintenance  programs  Production,  Economical  and Defect Analyses to detect areas for cost saving,  preventive measures, and to improve Dispatch Reliability and Qatar Airways Maintenance Program.
  • Responsible for the contract's negotiations and preparation  of contracts concerning airframe maintenance for approval by contracts must be established in  accordance with Appendix XI to AMC to M.A.708(c).
  • Administer  and control  all technical documents through  workflow and controlled checking process within Engineering  so that the integrity  and authenticity of  the technical  documents compiled are as per Qatar Airways Standards.
  • Evaluate existing repair procedures to develop work scopes for components to support operations that will increase the On Wing Life of these components and advice other departments like Supply Chain (SC) with cost effective solutions by availing Free Of Charge (FOC) modifications by initiating techno-commercial discussions with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)/ Vendors for cost avoidance for Qatar Airways.
  • Evaluation  of existing  Maintenance  program on the basis of in-service performance that will lead to escalation of interval of Maintenance Task(s) for the benefit of Qatar Airways.
  • Approaching Airframer/ OEMs to secure documentation to cover temporary limit exceedances as mentioned in the approved maintenance data.
  • Furnishing dashboards to present status of projects to provide a bird's eye view to senior leadership.
  • Control of the Continuous Airworthiness Management Exposition (CAME) document and preparation for revision of CAME in coordination with QA regarding procedural organization in line with developing CAME and CAP procedures for continuous airworthiness management to meet the EASA PART M requirements.
  • Establish training standards and ensure availability of relevant training to meet the needs of the department.
  • Ensure Part Number Master, Engineering Controls, Configuration Controls in TRAX is current.
  • Support with the Maintenance Program and devise in-house tasks based on In-Service issues.
  • Ensure that all engineering activities are conducted to world class standards, at the most efficient and cost effective level, and that all the activities involved on Aircraft Phase in and Phase out meet all the specifics requirements.
  • Ensure that  the Airworthiness directives and process follows all legal requirements as dictated by National and International Aviation Authorities and are compliant with all legal, official and safety regulations, as well as internal and external requirements.
  • Responsible for planning and controlling the Engineering budget.
  • Planning, administration and utilization of documentation and operating equipment under consideration of safety, profitability/efficiency, quality and social issues.

Stakeholder Management: 

  • Support other departments with data and facts required for efficient and economical operations (i.e. Warranty, Data, and Engine Condition Monitoring Data).
  • Ensure regular meetings with internal and external customers.
  • Provide operational support to Flight Operations Department.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 10+ years of job-related experience.
  • Relevant qualification in Aeronautical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of operational experience gained in a world-class aviation maintenance and engineering environment and technically qualified.
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience with a major international airline, and at least 5 years spent in a senior management role.
  • Previous experience of leading, managing and developing a sizeable organisation, with the personal responsibility for overall planning and financial accountability.

Job Specific Skills:

  • Clear understanding of operational excellence, quality, health and safety, technical  issues, as well as "client" behaviour and understanding/experience of how to influence this.
  • Demonstrable commercial skills and well-rounded broad business knowledge.
  • Demonstrable evidence of strong conceptual thinking and innovation with a strong and proven track record of generating new ideas and concepts challenging traditional frontiers of thought.
  • Pragmatic  individual with an understanding of what functionality and practicality  is  within a resource constrained environment.
  • Excellent team skills,  with  a genuine  commitment to an open, collegiate management ethos allied to an essentially pragmatic approach and a strong influencer.
  • Strong intellect and personal credibility to manage multi-disciplinary teams, each with a different, but aligned, set of business objectives.
  • Good knowledge of aircraft/ engine/ avionics and Manufacturers Planning Documents (MPD).
  • Must have a good working knowledge and understanding and be proficient in the use of MS Office and other similar IT software packages.
  • Fluent in English and be familiar with QCM, EASA, ICAO regulations.
  • Must have a good working knowledge and understanding and be proficient in the use of MSG-3 and MRB.
  • Must be able to attract the best people into the business and further develop existing employees.
  • Must be able to perform to high standards within an environment of constantly varying workload and achieve their targets and business objectives.
  • Must be able to perform and think clearly in  high pressure  and technically complex situations in  a  24/7 business  and  be able  to  make  critical  decisions  using  available  information  and  personal  knowledge, experience and judgement.
  • Managerial skills - Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching  skills. Ability to train and develop  subordinate's skills. Ability to foster teamwork among team members.
