Job Details

The Politics and International Relations Program, one of the programs offered by the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, aims to train a new generation of Arab specialists in Political Sciences able of producing knowledge that reflects the region, originate from it and serves its interests, and to engage in direct critical dialogue with theoretical debates and methodological approaches in this field of knowledge on a global scale. The program' approach not only aligns with teaching methods at prestigious international universities but also incorporates a distinctive dimension that encompasses Arab contributions, contents, and concerns. The program's approach to teaching and learning embodies the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies' goal of integrating research into teaching and learning. To achieve this, the program works to attract accomplished faculty members with experience in teaching, scientific research, and publication in leading international specialized journals. Faculty members in the program are expected to make substantive contributions and produce high level scientific research, to ensure that they pass on their expertise and research skills to students, and to foster scholarly collaboration with colleagues both within and outside the Doha Institute, thereby contributing to the enrichment of knowledge and the advancement of the academic field. They also expected to engage in ongoing critical review of Political Science, International Relations, and prevailing theories in these fields an approach encouraged by the program as part of its effort to produce original and innovative scientific contributions. The program pays particular attention to identifying and addressing gaps in the academic literature, especially those related to the study of the political issues in the Arab region.

The Politics and International Relations Program seeks to recruit a full-time faculty member specializing in International Relations, in line with the mission of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, which is committed to academic excellence, knowledge production, and the integration of scholarly research with public policy issues in regional and international contexts. The appointment is expected to commence in August/September 2027. The successful candidate should be a specialist in the field of International Relations. S/he will be expected to teach advanced graduate-level courses in the field, supervise master's and doctoral theses, and contribute to the development of the program's research environment. The candidate will also be expected to participate actively in academic and administrative committees, particularly those related to admissions and program development. They should maintain a strong research agenda and publish in internationally peer-reviewed journals, thereby enhancing the standing of the program while advancing DI's commitment to critical, interdisciplinary research and service to the pressing issues of the region.

  • Hold a doctorate degree in the field of Political Science
  • Demonstrate a track record of scientific research and publications in their field of specialization and related areas in international peer-reviewed journals that align with their academic rank.
  • Possess competence and experience in graduate-level teaching.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the Arabic language.
  • Be capable of attracting external support and funding for research.
  • Be willing to engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research with other members of the program and/or institute.
