Curator - Creative Residency

JOB PURPOSE:

To work with the Caravane Earth Foundation team to achieve the organization’s overall vision, leading on the delivery of residencies and public programs. This includes taking a key role supporting artistic research and development at Caravane Earth Foundation through structured curatorial and professional development activities, managing residencies end-to-end and initiating, and delivering, public programs in collaboration with colleagues and residents


RESPONSIBILITIES:

 To help develop CE Foundation’s curatorial themes, shape public program activities involving residents and/or themes related to their practice and the context of their work

 To manage and oversee selection processes for CE Foundation’s residency program and ensure targeted reach of open calls for applications and nomination processes

 Providing support for the exhibition with Qatar Museums

 To create a digital and offline Archive of traditional patterns

 To communicate with selected residents in advance of their residency to plan and discuss goals for the residency

 Choosing an architect is more of an administrative job than a curatorial one. To supervise restoration, construction, interior and other issues, an art director is needed

 Exploring the farm and residency opportunities: what has already been done, what needs to be done by the end of the year, what the budget is, who needs to be hired.

 To organize a program of presentations, field trips, group trips, studio visits and workshops etc. for residents

 To build relationships with Residency Partners and to keep them informed on selection and the process of the residency they are supporting

 To interact with visitors at the foundation, ensuring utmost hospitality and a unique experience

 To represent the foundation externally with individuals and institutions or at events

 To support relevant proposals and funding applications

 To work with the Managing Director and Head of Creative Residency to develop institutional or funding partners for the residency and public program

 To carry out all duties in compliance with appropriate internal and statutory policies and procedures, including in the maintenance of records and information as it relates to the organization and your individual work

 Any other job-related task assigned by the management

Skills

EDUCATION:

(Including Certifications

At least an undergraduate qualification in art, curatorial studies or relevant area of visual culture

 5+ years in an advanced management role (preference given to those with program management experience).

 Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills.

 Working knowledge of digital marketing.



EXPERIENCE:

 Minimum 5 years of Experience working on a creative residency program

 Proven experience in producing programs in collaboration with others, knowing when to take lead and how to support others to reach a shared vision


COMPETENCIES:

 Demonstrated writing and research ability

 Wide-ranging knowledge of the Qatar arts sector and the international context

 Excellent communication and ability to consistently manage artists with diplomacy and warmth

 Excellent organizational skills with particular attention to detail and capacity to multi-task under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

 Preferred: – International experience – Experience in artist development
