Job Responsibilities:

Trace Systems is actively recruiting for a cleared candidate to provide support to for the United States Air Force. Under the CTSS program, Trace Systems provides operations, maintenance, administration, and management support to USAFCENT A6, 379ECS, and ODRP in CONUS and in the USCENTCOM AOR. Task areas to be supported include: Program Management, Communications Planning and Engineering, Cybersecurity, Spectrum Operations, RF Transmission, SATCOM Operations, and Logistics.

Trace Systems is seeking an experience Telephone Technician II – (Strategic DSN Switch) to support our on-site team based in the Middle East. The candidate shall provide engineering, installation, decommissioning, maintenance, and day-to-day technical operation support on telecommunications equipment.

The candidate shall operate, maintain, administer, and install voice equipment. Compliance with the following DoD and USAF directives is mandatory.

Telephone Technician I – (Strategic DSN Switch) tasks shall include:

  • Provide administration, management, operation, and maintenance of telephone switch and associated equipment. Supported capabilities include integrated voice-mail systems, remote switching systems, optical carrier systems, rectifiers and rectifier battery systems, inverters, power supplies, UPS, or other telephone sub-systems.

  • Support equipment installation, placement, or relocation, including system checkout, test, and maintenance. The candidate shall perform all work IAW the specifications and policies of the DoD, USAF, telephone switch manufacturer, and other manufacturers of system components and with generally accepted telecommunications industry practices. Subtasks shall include:

  • Operate the telephone switch and associated hardware respectively IAW manufacturer manuals.

  • Start and configure the switch, respond to console messages, execute available diagnostic routines, and monitor system status for each switch.

  • Power down and start up the system(s): mount and remove disks, cartridges, or tapes; select input/output files; load programs, files, and database(s); and perform recoveries from machine stops or malfunctions.

  • Perform disk, cartridge, or tape backup of the switch memory every seven calendar days. When database changes have occurred, backups shall be completed within 24 hours.

  • Perform system/data administration on all equipment and software. The candidate shall accomplish database changes per time frames as set up by the Site Telephone Manager and IAW DoD and AF directives.

  • Perform software functions and translations for any add, move, change, delete, query of a circuit or system data, directory assistance, service order, trouble assistance, records administration, and call us- age documentation.

  • Perform minor installations as part of O&M and assist during major installations.

  • Perform traffic measurements and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s).

  • Perform call detail recording and analysis/studies for the telephone switching system(s).

  • Provide Reach-Back and Logistic Support

  • Support reach-back and logistic support of telephone systems through the utilization of the Government provided logistics support contract. Non-switch-specific ancillaries and switch-specific equipment.

  • Provide remote troubleshooting and diagnostics for selected switching systems and third-party vendor equipment at sites in the Government AOR.

  • Provide hardware Repair and Replacement (R/R) for services selected switching systems and third- party vendor equipment at sites in the Government AOR.

  • Provide Repair, Return, and Replacement

  • Provide routine replacement of failed equipment. Stock and maintain spare parts at levels determined by the Government. When replenishment of stocked items is required, the candidate shall obtain Government authorization before procurement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Intermediate “hands on” work experience in support of installations, repair, and troubleshooting or maintenance of telecommunications systems or equipment. Must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment.

  • Intermediate experience in maintenance/troubleshooting telecommunications equipment as specified in the specified task order to include the following:

  • Nortel SL-100

  • Meridian I/Succession 1000 Family of Switches

  • AVAYA AURA AS-5300

  • Voice Over Internet Protocol Equipment (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Voice Gateway and Cisco Analog Voice Gateways)

  • Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance


  • High School Diploma

    Certification Requirements:

  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification

  • Must have switch certification on Nortel SL-100 or Meridian I/Succession 1000 family of switches and/or completed Avaya Professional Credential Program
