JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE
Plan, develop, maintain and coordinate control system DCS & Process Emergency Shutdown (PES/SIS) engineering activities, design, and operation and construction management for all plant facility projects to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of all DCS & PES systems in Q-Chem plants.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
People Management
- Supervise the activities and work performed by direct reports to ensure that it are carried out in an efficient and effective manner, in line with the annual business plans, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Recommend training and development interventions for team members to build their capabilities.
- Contribute to the development of Qatari employees. This accountability is applicable to expatriate employees only.
Control System Management
- Monitor performance, identify upgrade needs, collect, analyse and interpret performance data to ensure optimal control systems performance.
- Monitor and participate in control system installation, modification and upgrades to ensure effective implementation.
- Work closely with Procurement team in the identification of upgrade requirements, technical qualification of vendors and final selection to ensure that services provided meet Q-Chem needs and standards.
- Modify the control systems throughout the plants, by installing all parameters, carrying out procedures as per set guidelines and practices to ensure smooth operations.
- Prepare spare parts management requirements at all times and monitor inventory, especially prior to major planned overhauls to avoid and minimize control system disruptions.
- Plan and schedule the upgradation of DCS & PES equipment and systems and ensure alignment of all relevant stakeholders to maintain DCS & PES systems reliability and optimal operation.
- Participate in developing of process and instrumentation diagrams to support clear and effective operation of control systems.
- Prepare DCS & PES system specifications to ensure accurate standardization of material.
- Prepare cost estimates for respective projects, review and approve documentation developed by contractors to ensure effective selection of contractors that would meet Q-Chem needs within allocated budgets.
- Work closely with ICS cybersecurity team to ensure all DCS & PES assets are secured.
- Participating of keeping DCS & PES assets working within the target security level.

- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of departmental systems, policies, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practices’ in order to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
- Provide critical input to support the development of Section’s systems, policies, processes, and procedures in order to meet business requirements.
- Ensure team members comply with all Section’s policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Quality, Health, Security, Safety and Environment
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and relevant quality, health, safety, security and environmental procedures and controls across the Department to guarantee employee safety and delivery of high quality products/services.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
Required : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronic / Process Control Engineering.
Preferred : Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic / Process Control Engineering or any related discipline.
Experience
Required : Total of 5 – 7 years of experience in control system function preferably in O&G Industry, out of which 2-3 years at a similar position as Emerson control system engineer for QChem2, Honeywell control system engineer for QChem1 or Yokogawa control system engineer for RLOC.
Preferred : Experience in Petrochemicals Industry or DCS/SIS systems OEM experiences
Certificate
Preferred:
- Functional Safety Engineer
- ISA Certified Automation Professional® (CAP®) Certification
- ICS Cybersecurity Fundamentals.
Languages
Required : English- proficient
Preferred : Arabic- working knowledge
