Responsible for consulting with patients, applying therapeutic treatments, prescribing orthotics and medications, and conducting foot or ankle surgeries if necessary. They will be responsible for advising on foot care and general therapy techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Examines, diagnoses, treats, and evaluates abnormalities and diseases related to the foot, ankle, and lower limb.
- Uses therapeutic and surgical techniques to treat nail pathologies and skin disorders.
- Performs Non-invasive treatment of lower extremity manifestations of medical systemic disease processes.
- Performs the treatment of infectious and non-infectious dermatological/nail conditions of the lower extremity.
- Takes responsibility for application of physical therapies (ultrasound, laser therapy, magnetotherapy, cryotherapy, TENS, etc.) and bandaging techniques for the treatment of acute and chronic pathologies that affect the foot.
- Assesses the structure, alignment and function of the feet and legs through biomechanical analysis.
- Identifies and analyses gait, stance, and balance with a range of equipment including video gait-analysis and
pressure-instrumented platforms.
- Prescribes, produces, and fits customized orthotics, prosthetic appliances and other aids for the foot, ankle
and lower limb.
- Performs physical scans of a patient’s lower extremities.
- Prescribes X-rays, laboratory test and oxygen therapy.
- Performs nail surgery, skin surgery and soft tissue surgeries under local anaesthesia.
- Performs the excision of soft tissue lesions of the foot.
- Prevents and manages diabetic foot complications.
- Performs Non-invasive treatment of arterial, venous, pressure, neuropathic, ischemic, neurochemical, and traumatic
wounds and ulcers of the foot and ankle.
- Performs Mechanical debridement of nails and ulcerated skin.
- Provides treatment for high-risk patient groups such as the elderly and those with increased risk of amputation.
- Applies biomechanical, physical, kinetic, and kinematic knowledge to improve sports performance in activities where the use of the feet is essential.
- Performs gait evaluation
- Performs preventive, palliative, and curative treatment of sports-related injuries in lower limbs.
- Prescribes drugs and medications used to treat foot conditions and disorders.
- Prevents, diagnoses, treats, and controls problems of the children's feet that are in parallel due to the development and overall growth of the rest of the body.
- Delivers foot health education.
- Gives advice and makes referrals to other healthcare and social services professionals as appropriate.
Education requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Podiatry/ Medical degree with specialization in Podiatry (optional).
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience post qualification
