Database Administrator

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position plays a significant role for database management and development. The position responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of all HBKU databases and will also b involved in the planning and development of databases as well as troubleshooting any issues The position also is responsible for conducting administrative tasks in HBKU student information system



Administer databases for the campus Enterprise Computing Systems. Plan and design entity relationships, data structures and manage the underlying system architecture.


Administer the campus wide relational database for production, instructional, and development systems, collectively described as the Enterprise Computing Systems. Perform database object and security administration such as creating indexes, schemas, table spaces, views, queries, stored procedures, user roles and profiles, and control and monitor data access. Diagnose and correct database and system problems while maintaining high availability for Enterprise Systems.


Design, develop, implement, tune, plan capacity and recover Enterprise Systems databases. Provide data modeling such as entity relationship diagrams for new systems to meet end-user requirements. Design and maintain data warehouse and data marts with ETL tools.


Provide database expertise to add or modify tables, fields, indexes and stored procedures as needed for additional system functionality or upgrades to Enterprise Systems on campus.


Ensure that the database is backed up and that routine database maintenance and administration is done in a manner that provides data integrity and is consistent with high availability performance.


Participate in the planning, drafting and creation of data related policy, standards, guidelines, manuals, and procedures. Develop and monitor compliance with policies and procedures controlling the integrity of and access to data.


Provide for data integration between Enterprise System databases and other third-party systems as needed to maintain the integrity of the Enterprise Computer Systems and ongoing campus system user needs.


Perform disk management for the installation and configuration of database management system software. Analyze and determine the optimal location of system executables, redo and manage log files, manage system data files, application data files and index files.


Provide system and database support for functional Inctional recovery in the event of failure that impacts user access on a 24x7 Page +

Minimum 10 years' experience as a DBA


10+ years of relevant full-time work experience in an IT production environment.


Demonstrated depth of knowledge and ability to handle a variety of situations


Works with less supervision on technical projects or assignments


Handles many technical processes without direct review
