Job Summary

As an autonomous practitioner and key multi-disciplinary team member, they will provide specialized, holistic assessment and goal orientated treatment through a patient centred model of care. Utilizing a broad range of assessment, treatment techniques, they will effectively promote health and well-being and maximize functional recovery, using both a restorative and preventative approach to patient care. They will also manage their own caseload of patients with complex medical and rehabilitative needs and assist other team members where required, to effectively manage patients and promote knowledge sharing and skill acquisition. 

The View Hospital aims to provide high quality, Speech and Language services across the following key Rehabilitation service areas: 

  • Neurology and Neurosurgery 
  • ENT (including Oncology) 
  • Paediatrics 

Job Responsibilities 1

rovides specialist, critically reasoned and holistic, Speech and Language assessments, for inpatients and outpatients, referred with varying complexities of presentations, encompassing physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects. 

​Provides goal orientated, evidence based and clinically reasoned treatment plans alone and in conjunction with an integrated team of physicians, nurses, and other Allied Health professionals (as applicable) in relation to clinical scope of practice. 

​Provides effective and safe patient (and family) education to assist in management and rehabilitation of speech, language, and swallowing difficulties, in line with evidence-based practice. 

​Identifies, recommends, prescribes, and implements suitable alternative, augmentative or assistive devices (in accordance with relevant policy) to support communication needs, engaging colleagues and family where applicable in their use. 

​Provides clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of Dysphagia, including clinical (bedside) examination and (where appropriate) referral for and interpretation of video fluoroscopy (VFSS) studies. 

​Provides clinical expertise in conjunction with Dietetic colleagues in the prescription of modified diets and their progression throughout the rehabilitative process, reflective of patient ability and in line with recommendations from any clinical or imaging assessment. 

Job Responsibilities 2

​Advocates the benefits of Speech and Language Therapy where necessary, using clinical reasoning, evidence practise examples, Recognised international guidelines/care standards within the team and wider organisation. 

​Acts as a key figure within the Hospital, in the provision of specialist knowledge and skill in the speech, swallowing and language related assessment, management and treatment of patients, within a broad scope or defined clinical specialism. 

​Takes an active role within the development of the Rehabilitation service, participating in In-Service training, facilitating the training and development of non-therapy staff, and sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate. 

​Manages own time and caseload with an awareness of limitation of the Rehabilitation service and a knowledge of specialist facilities and appropriate referral. 

​Demonstrates specialised therapeutic moving and handling skills in the assessment and treatment of clients and gives specialist advice to staff, client, carers, and family on the correct manual handling techniques. 

​Adheres to all departmental and facility wide policies, procedures, risk assessments and processes in the interest of maintaining a safe and effective work environment and promoting the highest quality patient care experience. 

​Practises a clear, concise, and timely documentation of clinical records including (but not limited to) initial assessment, re-evaluation, treatment sessions, discharge planning, referral letters and reports using a variety of digital applications and IT systems. 


Skills

Job Knowledge & Skills

Expertise in the assessment of complex presentations as an SLP and within an MDT setting. 

Expertise in the formation and implementation of goal orientated treatment plans. 

Ability to recommend and interpret VFSS (desired). 

Experience treating communication and language disorders (expressive and receptive language) due to developmental delay or cognitive deficit. 

Experience assessing and treating communication disorders (language, stuttering, fluency etc). 

Experience in tracheostomy management and weaning (desired.) 

Experience feeding and behavioural feeding issues (desired). 

Experience assessing, recommending, and implementing assistive communication devices (desired) 

Proficiency in the administration of standardized outcome measure testing applicable to area of work. 

Expertise in the application of evidence-based practice.

Job Experience

At least 4 years postgraduate experience. 

4 years of experience in the field of speech-language pathology for overseas candidates. 

Completion of mandatory training program or internship program in health care institution within the state of Qatar for nationals and residents.  

Previous experience working in a multi -disciplinary care team
