The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) was founded in Qatar in 2015 as a Doha-based independent institution of higher education. The Institute offers MA and PhD programs in two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy. The Institute adopts a student-centred approach to learning, promotes interdisciplinary research, and uses Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with fluency in English a requirement. DI aims to graduate researchers and practitioners who can advance knowledge and better the human condition, while upholding the highest scientific, professional, and ethical standards. It provides advanced leadership-focused training that emphasizes the competencies necessary to satisfy the region's needs in sustainable development and intellectual advancement. The Institute upholds the guiding principles of academic freedom and emphasizes the values of integrity and professionalism.

The Master's Program in Philosophy aims to train students to engage in academic research with confidence and competence, and to acquire knowledge in the use of philosophical theories, concepts and research methods. Program courses are designed to raise fundamental theoretical and practical issues in the field of Social and Political Philosophy. In line with the Doha Institute's mission, this program is open to other disciplines in order to diversify students' knowledge of methodological approaches, thereby enabling them to become independent thinkers. The program focuses on Social and Political Philosophy, including Ethics. In order to equip students to deal with contemporary issues and discussions in the specialized field of Social and Political Philosophy and Ethics, it requires students to take courses covering the theoretical as well as practical aspects of philosophy in both the social and political realms. This program aims at graduating students who are prepared for the pursuit of advanced degrees in philosophy as well as employment in the fields of teaching, research, and consultancy at academic institutions and others where philosophical training makes valuable contributions. It carries out this mission by educating students in the fundamental concepts, knowledge, and skills this discipline is based on.

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Philosophy Program at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to assume their appointment in August 2027. The Program seeks a scholar with expertise in modern and contemporary practical philosophy, including Ethics, Political Philosophy, and Social Philosophy, as well as demonstrated competence in modern and contemporary Arab thought and philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate-level courses in their areas of expertise, supervise master's and doctoral research, maintain an active and internationally recognized research agenda, and contribute to the academic and administrative activities of the Program in support of its mission.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver graduate level courses.
  • Supervise master's and doctorate students in the program while actively engaging in the academic life of DI.
  • Publish research in specialized and related fields in leading refereed / peer reviewed journals and/or reputable academic publishing houses.
  • Undertake administrative responsibilities and contribute to the needs of the program, school, institute, and community
  • Participate in various committees at the program, school, and institute levels.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Hold a doctorate degree in the field of Philosophy, preferably with a specialization in Ethics
  • Demonstrate a track record of scientific research and publications in their field of specialization and related areas in international peer-reviewed journals that align with their academic rank.
  • Possess competence and experience in graduate-level teaching.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the Arabic language.
  • Be capable of attracting external support and funding for research.
  • Be willing to engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research with other members of the program and/or institute.
  • Have the potential to build a global reputation in specialized research fields.
